We are currently hiring for a part time (14-16 hour per week), Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to help support the ultrasound department. This position is required to provide coverage to all Illinois FCI clinics on an as needed basis. 

The schedule includes working Mondays & Fridays. Training may be based out of our River North Clinic and will be full time (5 days per week) until the incumbent is fully trained (minimum of 6 weeks). 

The start time for this position is 6:30 am working 7 to 8 hour shifts. This position is not  eligible for benefits. 

This position is required to work two weekend days per month in River North. 

This position may be required to work a holiday; there is no work on Christmas or New Years day; however, this position may need to cover another holiday or work a holiday weekend. 

Parking and mileage to River North and other clinic locations will be expensed per the FCI travel policy during the full time training period. *Parking in River North is not reimbursed for part time employees; street parking may be available during morning hours. 

The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic sonographic examinations.

The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times, and is self-motivated to increase his or her level of understanding and knowledge of the field and new procedures as they evolve. 

Essential Job Functions

Professionalism and Accountability:

  • Maintain mature, professional, and effective working relationships with FCI physicians, all levels of FCI management and staff, and outside customers.

  • Maintain his or her own personal knowledge of current FCI policies, procedures, goals and initiatives.
  • Coordinates work schedule with U/S Scheduler and Manager, to assure workload overage.
  • Assume other responsibilities, aside from those outlined in this job description, as deemed necessary and appropriate by Physicians, Executive Director, and/or FCI management.

Clinical/technical:  

  • Perform all types of ultrasounds required at FCI, in accordance with established ultrasound standards, practice protocols, and policies.
  • Use cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
  • Use independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
  • Analyze sonograms, synthesize sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the physician and health care team in a timely manner.
  • Consistently and accurately complete documentation pertinent to the ultrasound examinations.
  • Complete encounter forms per standard FCI procedure.
  • Ensure proper operation of equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; reporting equipment failures/calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintain related supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies. 
  • Assist with training of new ultrasound staff.
  • Cooperate with office administration by assisting with  other  related responsibilities as needed.

Patient interaction: 

  • Assume responsibility for the safety and comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care.
  • Establish personal rapport with patients and other persons in a position to understand care requirements.
  • Gain patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of procedure; answering questions. 
  • Prepare patient for ultrasound by positioning patient; moving equipment into specified position; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors, properly draping patient. 
  • Assist patient services to prioritize patient appointments, and handle emergency visits. 
  • Coordinate with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.
  • Address problems of patient care as they arise and make decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.

Compliance:  

  • Maintain patient confidentiality by abiding by all aspects of HIPAA. 
  • Maintain employee and company confidentiality per Integramed and FCI policies.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by abiding by all aspects of OSHA. 
  • Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, and storage procedures. 
  • Adhere to all other Practice standards, policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to incident reporting policy and procedures.
