Internship – Safety Department

Expectations & Responsibilities:

  • Develop Construction Safety knowledge and experience by observing field safety inspections, meetings and safety orientations.
  • Observe and assist Safety Associate(s) investigating accidents and near misses; developing and implementing corrective actions and be able to effectively communicate findings to management team.
  • Attend safety committee meetings to raise safety awareness, communicate best practices and lessons learned and generate involvement throughout all departments.
  • Assist Safety Associate(s) with developing programs that engage employees in safety awareness and recognize positive behaviors.
  • Observe and participate in Production and Superintendent meetings.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Transportation to and from project.
  • Must be able to walk and to access all areas of the project multiple times daily which may require;
    1. Climbing stairs up to 5 stories
    2. Climb Ladders up to 40’
    3. Climbing temporary stair systems or walking scaffolding systems.
    4. Use of PPE Harness system as required by OSHA as needed to access and inspect the work.
    5. Ability to walk open floors or roofs.
    6. Accessing excavations by stepping into the excavation or via ladder as needed.
    7. Walking steep slopes or rough, uneven ground including on soil, stone, rock, mud etc.
  • Must be capable of working in a variety of physical positions which include, but are not limited to, sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, walking and driving. 
  • Vision abilities for this position include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Skills & Requirements

  • Current, enrolled student at college or university
  • Student should be enrolled in Construction related program
    • i.e. Occupational Safety & Environmental Health Major preferred, Construction Management, Engineering, Architectural major acceptable
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication, planning, organization, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • An ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization
  • Must have desire to observe and learn
