At IMC Construction, our Preconstruction / Estimating Interns play an important role in supporting the planning and estimating efforts that lay the foundation for successful projects. Working alongside experienced estimators, preconstruction professionals, and operational leaders, this position provides hands-on exposure to project budgeting, value engineering, procurement strategies, and construction technology. 
 
We're looking for motivated architecture, engineering, and construction management students who are eager to learn, ask questions, and gain real-world experience in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. This internship offers the opportunity to develop technical skills, build industry relationships, and gain insight into every stage of the preconstruction process while contributing to meaningful projects. 

What You'll Do 

Support Estimating Activities Shadow IMC Estimators and assist with the preparation of bid packages, solicitation of subcontractor and material supplier pricing, and analysis of bid proposals. You will gain firsthand experience in how project costs are developed and evaluated during the preconstruction phase. 

Develop Quantity Take-Offs & Cost Models Work alongside the Estimating and VDC/BIM teams to develop quantity take-offs, value engineering studies, and project cost models throughout the design development and bidding process. 

Leverage Construction Technology Assist in the development of staging plans, logistics plans, and visual project studies utilizing REVIT and other digital tools. 

Support Bid Analysis & Procurement Help ensure project estimates are accurate, complete, and aligned with project requirements. 

Participate in Preconstruction Strategy Attend preconstruction strategy meetings and observe how project teams develop approaches to estimating, planning, risk management, and client expectations. 

Assist with Client Deliverables Support the team in assembling preconstruction materials for presentations and project pursuits. 

Build Industry Relationships Assist with identifying and qualifying new material suppliers and subcontractors for inclusion within IMC bid management systems. 

Learn from Industry Experts Work closely with Estimators, MEP Estimators, and Preconstruction leadership while gaining exposure to all aspects of the preconstruction process. 

Explore Innovative Solutions Gain exposure to IMC technology initiatives, including AR/VR applications, drones, Assemble, and other emerging construction technologies. 

Expand Technical Knowledge Become familiar with industry software such as SmartBid, Revit, SketchUp, and other preconstruction tools. 

Skills & Requirements

  • Current student enrolled in a college or university pursuing a construction-related degree; Architectural Drafting focus preferred but not required 

  • Strong interest in VDC and BIM 

  • Proficiency with computer applications 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 

  • Ability to work collaboratively 

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills 

  • Self-motivated with a desire to learn 

  • Positive attitude and proactive approach
