Position Summary

The HESSC Manager is responsible for leading the Company's health, safety, environmental, security, regulatory compliance, hazardous materials, and trade compliance programs. This role serves as the primary subject matter expert for safety and compliance, ensuring the organization operates in accordance with all applicable federal, state, local, and international regulations while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

This position partners closely with Operations, Logistics, Sales, Purchasing, Product Management, and Executive Leadership to strengthen safety performance, mitigate risk, maintain regulatory compliance, and support the Company's strategic growth objectives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

·         Lead and continuously improve the Company’s safety, environmental, security, and compliance programs.

·         Promote a culture of safety, accountability, employee engagement, and continuous improvement.

·         Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, environmental, hazardous materials, transportation, import/export, and other regulatory requirements.

·         Develop and maintain compliance policies, procedures, training programs, and internal controls.

·         Conduct audits, inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations, implementing corrective actions as needed.

·         Manage hazardous materials, ammunition, import/export, licensing, permitting, and regulatory reporting programs.

·         Monitor regulatory changes and advise leadership on compliance risks and business impacts.

·         Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, coordinating inspections, audits, and corrective action responses.

·         Develop and deliver training programs to ensure regulatory compliance and required employee certifications.

·         Establish and analyze key performance metrics to drive safety, compliance, and operational improvements.

·         Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate safety, compliance, and risk management into daily operations and strategic initiatives.

·         Support business growth initiatives, including new products, suppliers, acquisitions, and market expansion activities through compliance oversight and risk assessment.

·         Participate in enterprise risk management, business continuity planning, and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

Education

• Associates or Master’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Business Administration, Compliance Management, or related field required.
• DOD Course 4145 (preferred)

Experience

·         7+ years of progressive experience in environmental health and safety (EHS), regulatory compliance, hazardous materials management, security, transportation/logistics, or related disciplines.

·         Experience supporting manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, ammunition, firearms, defense, chemical, transportation, or other highly regulated industries preferred.

·         Proven success developing and leading safety and compliance programs, including managing regulatory audits, inspections, and agency interactions in complex regulatory environments.

• Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
• Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP)
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
• DOT Hazardous Materials Certification
• Export Compliance Certification or equivalent trade compliance credential

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

·         Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, ITAR, hazardous materials, transportation, environmental, and regulatory compliance requirements.

·         Working knowledge of import/export regulations, trade compliance, sanctions, licensing, and hazardous material shipping requirements preferred.

·         Experience conducting audits, inspections, investigations, risk assessments, compliance reviews, emergency response planning, and root cause analysis.

·         Ability to interpret complex regulations and translate requirements into practical business solutions.

·         Strong analytical, organizational, communication, leadership, training, project management, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence culture and drive accountability at all levels.

·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office and compliance management systems.

·         Lean Six Sigma, CSP, CHMM, DGSA, or similar certifications preferred.

Work Environment

This position operates in both office and warehouse environments and may require periodic travel, facility inspections, and interaction with regulatory agencies, customers, suppliers, and business partners.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform facility walkthroughs, inspections, and audits within warehouse and distribution environments, including occasional lifting, standing, walking, bending, and use of personal protective equipment as required.
