Host acquired Avondale Shipyard in 2018 from Huntington Ingalls Industries. Avondale is a historic property, located along the Mississippi River in New Orleans, LA, with a footprint of 254 acres and significant warehousing and storage capabilities. With five docks and over one mile of waterfront, the Avondale Shipyard will become integral to Host’s continued efforts to provide REAL solutions to customers and shift the transportation paradigm. Host plans future connectivity for the shipyard to six Class 1 Railroads via the New Orleans Public Belt, through a binding Cooperative Endeavor Agreement entered into with the Port of New Orleans.

Position Summary: The Key Account and Compliance manager is responsible for managing and growing relationships with the company’s most important clients. This role focuses on retaining key account, maximizing revenue opportunities, and acting as a strategic partner to this customer, by understanding their business needs and delivering tailored solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Account & Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key customers, serving as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts.
- Understand customer business objectives and align company services and solutions to support operational and commercial goals.
- Develop and execute account strategies to achieve revenue, retention, and growth objectives, identifying opportunities for account expansion.
- Conduct regular business reviews, monitor customer satisfaction, and provide accurate forecasts, activity updates, and performance reports.
- Resolve customer concerns, service issues, and escalations in a timely and professional manner.
- Support customer onboarding, product trials, technical discussions, and long-term partnership development.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure customer expectations are met and service commitments are consistently delivered.
Commercial & Market Expertise
- Review commercial agreements and ensure all applicable charges are accurately applied and captured on customer invoices.
- Develop a thorough understanding of customer operations, product requirements, quality specifications, and supply chain needs.
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, market conditions, competitive activity, and emerging business opportunities.
- Analyze customer activity and market developments to identify growth opportunities and improve service offerings.
- Participate in contract implementation, service reviews, and commercial discussions to support customer retention and profitability.
Operational Coordination
- Coordinate with Sales, Operations, Logistics, Quality, and Technical teams to ensure seamless service delivery and customer support.
- Address quality concerns, delivery issues, and customer claims, driving timely resolution and corrective action.
- Serve as the Lead Representative for Avondale, supporting customer accounts and operational initiatives in partnership with the Traffic Manager.
- Collaborate with department leaders as a member of the Avondale logistics management team.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of terminal operations, inventory flows, vessel activity, warehouse operations, and customer requirements.
- Act as a liaison between customers and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate communication and efficient execution of services.
- Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Support special projects and initiatives that enhance operational effectiveness and business performance.
Inventory & Compliance
- Serve as the subject matter expert for inventory compliance, ensuring adherence to Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ), Bonded Warehouse, Customs, and company regulatory requirements.
- Execute bank releases and manage inventory holding certificates, including FTZ and bonded inventory movements and all related documentation.
- Monitor, reconcile, and audit inventory transactions and completed FTZ and bonded files to ensure accuracy, compliance, and proper record retention.
- Provide backup support for traffic coordination and production scheduling activities within the inventory management system as needed.
- Lead the development, review, standardization, and continuous improvement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to promote operational consistency and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and deliver training on SOPs and compliance requirements, ensuring consistent understanding and execution across departments.
- Support Warehouse Management System (WMS) implementation and enhancement projects, including process documentation, SOP development, testing, and end-user training.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and partner with operations, logistics, and warehouse teams to improve inventory accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
- Collaborate closely with the Marine Scheduling team to ensure cargo is assigned the correct inventory status and that all supporting documentation is complete and accurate for ATS-related movements.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and investigate discrepancies, taking corrective action when necessary.
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing required documentation and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and company policies.
- Prepare reports and analysis related to inventory activity, compliance metrics, and operational performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred, with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the maritime shipping industry or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to respond quickly and effectively to operational issues in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining a strong commitment to safety.
- Self-motivated professional with strong leadership, communication, analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to develop, implement, and maintain efficient processes and systems.
- Flexible team player who can adapt to changing priorities and business needs.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software applications.
