What will you be doing?

As a certificated substitute teacher, you will be assigned 2-3 consistent days a week to substitute teacher in our kindergarten program. As a substitute teacher you will deliver pre-planned scheduled lessons and provide meaningful play-based instruction. The substitute teacher is responsible for supervising children in the classroom, taking attendance, implementing lesson plans, communicating the children’s progress and working with Education Assistants.  

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe and caring environment that fosters inclusion and the love of learning.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom education assistants, therapists, and the regular classroom teacher.
  • Follow pre-planned lessons, delivering the Kindergarten Alberta Education curriculum and adapting lessons in the moment to meet the diverse needs of each child.
  • Provide follow-up notes to the regular classroom teacher that reflect child progress.
  • Provide effective classroom management.

Requirements:

  • *Minimum of Bachelor of Education degree with either an interim or permanent teaching certificate from Alberta Education.
  • *Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • *Access to a reliable vehicle and a driver’s license.
  • Current Standard First Aid and Child CPR.
