Job Description

Allergy Medical Assistant – Gap Year Opportunity

Charleston ENT & Allergy has immediate openings for full-time Allergy Medical Assistants to join our rapidly growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for pre-med, pre-PA, or other pre-health students taking a gap year who are looking to gain meaningful, hands-on clinical experience before continuing their education.

Our Allergy Medical Assistants work closely with physicians, clinical staff, and patients and are involved in nearly every aspect of the allergy department. From assisting with patient care and allergy testing to supporting immunotherapy and lab processes, this role provides valuable exposure to the day-to-day operations of a busy medical practice.

Because this position combines direct patient care, clinical procedures, laboratory responsibilities, and administrative experience, gap year students have the opportunity to build a well-rounded clinical foundation while working alongside experienced healthcare professionals.

Customer service is also a major part of this role. Our Allergy MAs interact with patients throughout the day and play an important role in making sure each patient's allergy care needs are met.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work up clinic patients for our Allergists
  • Obtain patient histories and vital signs and reconcile medications
  • Assist with and perform various types of allergy and diagnostic testing, including:
    • Skin testing
    • Penicillin (PCN) testing
    • Patch testing
    • Lung function testing
  • Administer allergy injections
  • Mix allergy serum for patient immunotherapy
  • Perform phlebotomy and other laboratory duties
  • Triage patients and assist physicians with patient care and procedures
  • Assist with prescription requests
  • Scan and document patient test results and other clinical information
  • Contact insurance companies to obtain pre-certifications for testing and procedures
  • Schedule testing and follow-up appointments
  • Float between front- and back-office responsibilities as needed

Why This Is a Great Gap Year Opportunity

For students preparing for medical school, PA school, or another healthcare graduate program, this position offers the chance to spend your gap year gaining real-world clinical experience rather than simply observing it. You'll interact directly with patients, develop practical clinical skills, work alongside physicians, and gain a deeper understanding of patient care and medical practice operations.

If you're motivated, dependable, eager to learn, and looking to make your gap year count, we'd love to have you join the Charleston ENT & Allergy team.
