Job Description

  • May layout & mark weld points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates
  • Positions pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools
  • Reads blueprints and performs own fit-up
  • Works with different types and sizes of structural materials
  • Operates cutting equipment
  • Safely operates iron worker, overhead cranes, rigging, pipe threading machine, welding machine, tube bending machine, and various pneumatic hand tools
  • Assembly of components with some fabrication of equipment needed for the job with minimal supervision
  • Promotes and supports safety, production and positive attitude
  • Utility discipline: Primarily fabricates and assembles screwed piping, tubing, and associated brackets to all drawings provided
  • Instrument discipline: Primarily installs and checks panels and end devices used. Lays out conduits and tubing or whatever is requested by supervisor or superintendent

Skills & Requirements

Education and Certification Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent
  • combination of education and experience
  • Should have experience operating other shop equipment (e.g., overhead crane, forklift, hand tool)
  • Should have knowledge of different types and sizes of structural materials

Specific Work Background/Experience Required:

  • Must pass a 3G welding test in order to be able to tack weld vessels together
  • Must be able to tack and use grinder
  • Must have the ability to understand basic English

Special Requirements/Additional Comments Required:

Standard requirements.

  • Bending, squatting, climbing, twisting and reaching will all be used occasionally in this position
  • Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to work under pressure
  • Must be able to work with the team in developing improved work processes for the department
