Purpose and Scope of Job:
Based upon Incoterms, cost, quality, what is being moved, origination point / destination point and finally accepted market transit times; this position will be responsible for analyzing, deciding, integrating, and reviewing different modes and strategies of transportation. Many of the calculations are made using computer software. Delays in shipping occur, will result in determination the reasons for the delays and potential solutions eliminating future delayes.Person will be charged with handling the claims and make the necessary arrangements with customers or carriers when goods that are lost or damaged in transit.Responsible for approving bills, clearing shipments through customs. Keep records of freight rates and shipments, and Customs data. Staying abreast with the aspects of transportation that are controlled by federal, state, and local regulations. Must be aware of the regulations and be prepared to argue cases for SMA before government regulatory agencies. To work closely with legal providers for SMA, the production, purchasing, marketing, and other departments.

Essential Functions:

  • Performance of the transportation systems within SMA, including the movement of finished goods and major raw material.
  • Establish short and long-term strategic improvements in the logistics chain.
  • Provide leadership in the negotiation of major logistics contracts.
  • Customs clearance including regulation compliance.

Skills & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Diploma - Prefer logistics and/or economics background
  • 4-5 years experience in a logistics role, preferably in a position of leadership
  • International experience a plus

Interactions with Others:

  • Internal - Interacts with all functional departments within SMA organization
  • External - Interacts with suppliers, Customs and Regulatory officials, and service/legal providers

Work Environment:

  • Position will be a indoor function and could require domestic and international travel (~10 days per year)
