Widowed Persons Services Volunteers are people who have lost a spouse or significant other and are able to provide a connection to other newly widowed people. They provide a sense of comfort and the opportunity for bereaved people to talk and learn about their grief. Volunteers provide reassurance and comfort for people grieving the loss of a spouse, offering community resources when appropriate.
- Assist with social events and educational/community outreach projects
- Provide follow-up phone support and occasional visits to newly
bereaved. Calls are made at the mutual convenience of volunteers and
newly bereaved persons.
- Monthly meetings are held, to discuss related issues
Bereavement support volunteers work with the Grief & Loss
Services team to provide support to those suffering the loss of a loved
one. These volunteers establish personal contact with bereaved
individuals through phone calls, and facilitate groups that help people
work through their grief.
