Position Title: Director of Sales & Engineering                                      

Location: Germany (preferred), France, or Czech Republic

Position Summary:

Company serves all European OEMs (VW, BMW, Daimler, Ford, Renault & PSA) and their tier suppliers; leading manufacturer of powertrain components for the Automotive market: primarily coolant regulators, reservoirs, filters, quick connectors, gears and mechatronics; locations in Germany, France, and Czech Republic; Sales and Engineering Director reports to the Vice President/General Manager and will be responsible for the development and performance of all sales & engineering activities in the assigned market(s).

Position Responsibilities:                                                               

  • Establish the direction, performance goals, plan and vision to align the resources for the division to ensure growth and penetration in EU region with current focus launches

  • Lead and inspire the Sales & Engineering team to excel and exceed the division commercial, operational and financial goals

  • Work closely with senior leadership and operations; leverage local market knowledge to focus on growing core products and introduce new ones applying an “outside in” discipline with meaningful $/car, value proposition and a sustainable differentiation; apply Company innovation strategies utilizing the Company toolbox and customer-backed innovation

  • Support new product development and modifications with engineering and technical support for design, process and validation functions; obtain patents where applicable

  • Nurture customer relationships that provide insight and a landscape where Company has a competitive advantage through “cradle to grave” relationships

  • Develop pricing policies and direct major negotiations as needed

  • Direct strategic planning (5-year Long Range Plan), including comprehensive market research and competitive analysis to understand the market niche, product development and penetration opportunities

  • Maintain a continuing analysis of reports such as sales reports, sales expenses, new and lost business, etc., for the purpose of detecting undesirable trends at an early stage in order to take prompt remedial action

  • Continue to strengthen relationships and maximize synergies with other Company units

  • Encourage balanced risk taking, innovation and accountability; challenge status quo

  • Championing the Company leadership development framework, develop talent within the business

  • Identify and develop key leaders for future roles

  • Build and maintain a management team that is able to support meeting the division commercial, operational and financial goals; develop the related key leaders and the team members and accelerate the development of early in career high potential functional talent

  • Demonstrate personal effectiveness and leadership that creates a culture of high performance

  • Nurture an environment consistent with the Company values and culture

Skills & Requirements

Position Skills & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree - B.A./B.S. from four-year College or University in Engineering; Masters degree a plus

  • 10 years of experience in Sales management, experience in Engineering & project management

  • Automotive sales experience mandatory; strong network with purchasing & engineering teams with OEMs

  • Exceptional track record of developing, implementing and analyzing strategic business (competitive), marketing and sales strategies that have consistently met or exceeded planned objectives, providing personal leadership by example

  • Proven track record of successful customer negotiations

  • Good understanding of business financial data in order to work on budget, sales and business development

  • Proven ability to manage complexity and change

  • Demonstrated ability to make tough business and leadership decisions

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with experience in communicating and working with a remote region

  • Experience in managing an intercultural team

  • Proven ability to generate respect and trust from staff and external constituencies; team player

  • Personally driven and motivates others to excel

  • Ability to identify talents and develop future leaders/managers

  • Willingness to travel 30%, mainly in EU
