Job Description

 

The Therapeutic Recreation Department is seeking a Therapeutic Recreation  Aide, part time, to join our team. The work hours is 11.25 hours and location is 120 West 106th Street, NY, NY 10025.

Job Title: Therapeutic Recreation Aide

Job Summary: Under supervision and direction of Department Director, the Therapeutic Recreation Aide assists in preparation and conducting of group programs, outings, and other activities.

Reports To: Director of Client Experience and Meaningful Life

Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Transports residents/ patients to and from recreation activities.

·       Assists with off-unit large group activities.

·       Conducts planned activities according to designated schedule.

·       Prepares materials for recreation programs.

·       Completes attendance records.

·       Completes mandatory in-service education via an on-line portal and in-person classes.

·       Attends department specific in-service classes.

·       Attends scheduled staff meetings.

·       Delivers residents/ patients notices, flyers, invitations, and activity schedules.

·       Prepares all required paperwork for resident activities, outings, and barbecues.

·       Picks up refreshment orders.

·       Other duties as assigned.

Specialized Skills and Competencies:

·       Ability to conduct simple recreation programs that satisfy cognitive, physical, and social needs of residents/ patients.

·       Ability to conduct simple recreation programs appropriate to people with dementia.

·       Ability to conduct simple activities in accordance with program protocols.

·       Ability to transport residents to and from programs.

·       Ability to get along well with others.

·       Ability to function as a team member.

·       Ability to respond appropriately to people with behavioral symptoms.

 Related Skills and Competencies: 

  • Ability to conduct simple recreation programs in accordance with age-appropriate capabilities and needs of the elderly and adult populations.
  • Ability to conduct activities which relate to the leisure lifestyle and preferences of the adult/ elderly population.

Job Qualifications:

·       Education- High School Diploma

·       Training- 6-12 months prior experience as Recreation Aide

Physical Demands:

  • Pushing wheelchairs.
  • Pushing activity carts.
  • Lifting equipment.
  • Bending and setting up equipment for recreation activities.
  • Opening/ closing/ moving tables/ chairs.
  • Assist residents during outings.
