Job Description

The Nursing Department on the Manhattan campus is seeking a full time Infection Control Program Manager  to join our team. This position offers a $6,000 hiring bonus for full‑time hires, with a prorated bonus for part‑time positions.

The Infection Control Preventionist is responsible for the management and implementation of the Infection Control program. He/She will also be responsible in assuring consistent observance of  approved quality standards of care and compliance with established policies and procedures in the provision of resident/client care.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the management and implementation of the Infection Control Program. 
  • Directs and supervises the delivery of nursing care within an assigned unit. Delegates the responsibility for direct  resident care to the appropriate nursing staff member. Monitors care to assure care is provided as directed by the resident plan of care. 
  • Effectively communicates resident and unit needs to Nursing Administration.
  • Utilizes a process of data collection, assessment and care planning to meet the needs of resident.
  • Facilitates communication and problem solving with other disciplines to develop a plan of care which will address these goals.
  • Responsible for assuring the Resident Care Plan is revised as necessary to reflect the current needs of the resident.
  • Participates with Nursing Administration in meeting clinical and budget goals.
  • Evaluates staff assigned to her/his assigned unit to determine staff competencies and/or the need for education. Assists, as appropriate in the education of staff. Participates in the counseling and discipline of staff.  
  • Maintains personal competencies to assure the ability to provide resident care,evaluate the competencies of staff assigned to his/her unit and to serve as a role model for unit staff.
  • Communicates resident needs, strengths and conditions to appropriate staff members through unit conferences and in written format.    

 

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing and current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State
  • A minimum of four years nursing experience including previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Long term care experience ; knowledge of nursing home infection control is required
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • APIC certified or Infection Control Certification is required.
