Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a backfill for instructional assistant absences (please refer to the job description for instructional assistants here). Selected candidates will be assigned to support the needs of the elementary school.
  • Provide interpretation support. A priority for this role will be to support the English-Chinese interpretation needs throughout the school. Selected candidates will be part of the School's list of eligible interpreters and will be expected to:
    • Provide interpretation and/or translation services when needed.
    • Maintain strict confidentiality of information shared in any interactions with SAS parents, students and/or educators in which you are invited in to provide interpretation or translation support.
    • Be adaptable and willing to work with key stakeholders across the school (e.g. faculty members, support staff, school leaders, parents, students, safeguarding lead, etc).
  • Perform playground supervision duties as part of day-to-day instructional assistant responsibilities.
  • When not performing interpretation duties, most of the permanent substitute’s time will be spent substituting in classrooms. Permanent substitutes are also expected to be adaptable and willing to assist with other assignments or responsibilities, as needed.
  • This is a full-time substitute role that will be on campus during all school workdays and shall be willing to commit to a one year contract.  

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications

  • GCE 'O' Level Certification (minimum 5 'O' with at least a credit in English subject)
  • Good verbal and written English and Mandarin Chinese. The successful candidate will be required to converse, read, write/type in both English and Mandarin.
  • Comfortable in work environments requiring flexibility in working with diverse colleagues
  • Positive work attitude and initiative with the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively and provide assistance as a part of their work team
  • Strong skills and experience with work-related technology applications, ie. Google Suite, Word, Powerpoint, and the interest and ability to learn new applications
