Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

 

RIZZO International, Inc. is seeking an experienced geologist to support as-needed, field-based geotechnical and geologic investigations. This role is ideally suited for a highly experienced professional who can immediately integrate into active field programs, operate independently, and deliver high-quality subsurface characterization with minimal ramp-up.

The position is primarily field-focused and is expected to support drilling and investigation programs on a part-time or project-by-project basis, depending on workload and candidate availability.

Skills & Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide on-site geological oversight during drilling operations, including continuous core logging and soil/rock classification at the rig and logging table
  • Perform real-time subsurface interpretation to support field decisions and adaptive investigation strategies
  • Log core and soils using digital platforms (e.g., pLog) with a high degree of accuracy and consistency
  • Develop and manage subsurface data outputs, including borehole logs using gINT, OpenGround, or similar platforms
  • Coordinate with drilling contractors, geophysical teams, and project managers to ensure efficient field execution
  • Maintain strict adherence to QA/QC protocols and health and safety requirements
  • Support interpretation of geologic conditions
  • Contribute to field reports and provide input to downstream technical analyses as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of hands-on field experience, with demonstrated experience in drilling oversight, rock core logging, soil classification (USCS), and field documentation practices
  • Proficiency with pLog and working knowledge of gINT, OpenGround, or equivalent borehole data management systems
  • Familiarity with supplemental geotechnical and geophysical investigation methods (e.g., CPT/SCPT, downhole geophysics)
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work in the field as required
  • Professional Geologist (PG) license preferred (or ability to obtain)

 

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000 - $140,000 per year (commensurate with experience)
