Avania are hiring - Database Developer - Clinical Data Management
About the role
As a Database Developer at Avania, you will play a key role in strengthening our clinical data management and database programming capability, supporting the delivery of high-quality studies across a range of therapeutic areas and clients. This role is focused primarily on database development, while also offering the opportunity to contribute to selected clinical data management activities where needed to support study delivery and team collaboration. You will work closely with experienced colleagues to build, configure, and maintain clinical study databases, with a particular emphasis on bringing adaptable technical skills, a practical mindset, and an understanding of the healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or medical device environment. We are open to candidates from junior through senior level, provided they bring the right foundation, learning agility, and motivation to grow within the role. You may work across platforms such as iMedNet or Viedoc, and experience with Rave certification is valued given the wider needs of the team, though it is not essential in every case. This position offers a strong opportunity to develop within Avania by combining technical database programming work with broader exposure to clinical data operations in a collaborative, supportive environment.
What you'll be doing
- Build, configure, test, and maintain clinical study databases in line with study requirements, internal standards, and project timelines
- Support database development activities across platforms such as iMedNet and Viedoc, applying structured and accurate programming practices throughout the study lifecycle
- Contribute to database-related documentation and setup materials, ensuring study builds are clearly recorded and aligned with project expectations
- Collaborate with clinical data management colleagues and other study team members to translate protocol and study requirements into effective database configurations
- Perform updates, enhancements, and change requests to study databases as needed, ensuring changes are implemented carefully and documented appropriately
- Participate in user acceptance testing, validation, and quality checks to help confirm that databases function as intended before and during study use
- Provide practical database expertise to support smooth study delivery, while contributing to selected clinical data management tasks where appropriate
- Bring a flexible, solutions-oriented approach to working across different systems and processes, rather than relying on a single fixed way of working
- Work closely with team members across Avania to help address resource gaps in database programming while supporting continuity on active and upcoming studies
Candidates who offer a combination of the skills, knowledge and experience listed below are encouraged to apply to our Database Developer - Clinical Data Management role . With our continued growth we are hiring talent to join us on our journey and grow with us.
What we're looking for
- A strong interest in clinical database development and the motivation to contribute within a collaborative clinical data environment
- Experience or demonstrable potential in database programming, study build, or related clinical data activities within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or healthcare sector
- An adaptable mindset and openness to learning different systems, processes, and ways of working across Avania's clinical data teams
- Good understanding of the importance of accuracy, structure, and quality in configuring and maintaining study databases
- Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating study needs into practical database solutions
- Clear communication skills and a professional, team-oriented approach when collaborating with data managers, programmers, and wider project teams
- Interest in working across both database development and selected clinical data management responsibilities where business needs require flexibility
- Experience with platforms such as iMedNet, Viedoc, or Rave is beneficial, and Rave certification would be an advantage
- Willingness to join a team that can support development from a more junior level, while also welcoming more experienced candidates who can contribute quickly
- A background that combines technical capability with relevant life sciences, biotech, medical, or healthcare affinity, rather than pure programming experience alone
What you'll need
- Practical experience in clinical database development, database programming, or related clinical data work, whether gained in a junior, mid-level, or senior capacity
- Familiarity with clinical database platforms such as iMedNet, Viedoc, and/or Rave; formal Rave certification is advantageous but not mandatory
- Sufficient therapeutic, clinical research, or healthcare domain understanding to work effectively in a regulated study environment
- Ability to interpret study requirements and convert them into accurate database builds, edits, updates, and supporting documentation
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable database work within agreed timelines
- A flexible and pragmatic working style, with the ability to adapt to Avania processes and collaborate constructively across teams
- Comfort working in a role that is primarily focused on database development but may also include some clinical data manager responsibilities as needed
- Capacity to learn from experienced colleagues and grow in the role, or, for more experienced candidates, the ability to bring immediate value while remaining open-minded in approach
- Ability to work effectively in a remote or office-based setting across Avania's European locations
- Eligibility to work in one of the target hiring locations, with particular interest in candidates based in Spain or the Netherlands, while also considering the UK and Germany
What we offer
We offer the opportunity to join Avania in a role that is central to strengthening our database programming capability within clinical data management. You will become part of a supportive team that is open to candidates at different levels of experience, with the ability to provide training and development for more junior hires while also offering meaningful scope for experienced professionals. This role can be based across Avania's European locations, with a preference for Spain and the Netherlands, and consideration also given to candidates in the UK and Germany. The position does not necessarily require regular office attendance, allowing flexibility depending on location and team needs. You will have the chance to work across multiple clinical database platforms, contribute to important study delivery work, and build your expertise in an environment that values
Avania - MedTech's trusted Champion
We look forward to receiving your application!
