Job Description

College Bound Dorchester is looking for highly motivated, resourceful and talented individuals to join our growing team. College Bound is a Boston-based nonprofit leader in gang-intervention, equipping gang-involved young people (Core Influencers) with the attitude, skills and experience to graduate from college and become positive leaders in their community. College Bound is a $5M organization poised to be a national model to use education to redirect the entrepreneurial, networking and leadership skills of gang-members from violence (and recidivism) to drive positive change that shifts social norms in our neighborhoods – empowering Core Influencers to become the solution to the chronic cycles of violence and poverty they have helped drive.

 

The Opportunity

 

The Individual Giving Officer is a critical role within College Bound’s Resource Development team. Responsibilities include but are not limited to utilizing your relationship management experience and fundraising skills to develop and implement a robust individual donor prospecting and cultivation plan, represent College Bound to high net-worth individuals, and work with major giving donors and prospects to raise outright gifts.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, steward and retain major gift prospects and donors
  • Develop, plan and execute customized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for each donor in the assigned portfolio, incorporating planned and complex gift opportunities when possible
  • Actively pursue prospects, make qualification visits to identify and engage new individuals capable of making a major outright gift to College Bound
  • Manage a portfolio of 50-100 donors and prospects capable of making a $10k+ outright gift to College Bound
  • Schedule, script, and lead 50+ donor meetings annually and other individualized contacts with prospects
  • Guide and direct staff and board/advisory board members in cultivation and solicitation activity
  • Develop and maintain familiarity with College Bound programs and priorities and develop persuasive proposals and reports to individual donors and family foundations
  • Support fundraising event planning and committee staffing
  • Take on additional development projects as needed

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 3+ years of major or leadership gifts experience or comparable non-profit development experience
  • Must be a quick learner with demonstrated success managing and prioritizing development tasks, including writing compelling proposals, developing donor relationships and making solicitations
  • A proven ability to develop and implement a prospecting plan to identify and qualify new donors is required
  • Must demonstrate superior interpersonal skills, along with the ability to manage relationships and multiple tasks with ease. The right candidate will be energetic, intellectually curious and a good listener
  • Ability to strategize with management to improve methods and processes
  • Confident worker with the ability to structure a large and multifaceted workload and navigate within varying degrees of ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong computer skills, including facility with Microsoft Office suite and constituent databases, are necessary (experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus and Moves Management process is preferred)
