Founded by CEO Danny Meyer with the opening of Union Square Cafe in 1985, Union Square Hospitality Group has created some of New York’s most beloved restaurants, cafes, and bars such as Gramercy Tavern, Maialino, The Modern, Marta and Porchlight to name a few!


The Executive Pastry Chef will be responsible for all production, execution and distribution of high-quality pastry, baking and selected savory production for all baking and pastry items within the Food2Lex Property, including Maialino Restaurant, Gramercy Terrace, In-Room Dining, Maialino Sweets To Go and Goldbelly. This position will oversee the Pastry department, which includes menu and recipe development, organizing and coordinating kitchen logistics, managing a kitchen staff, inventory of food and kitchen supplies, and growth and development of pastry program.

Skills & Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience as Pastry Chef of restaurant or hotel property
  • Excellent working knowledge of Italian cuisine and current dessert trends
  • Strong Computer Skills ( Microsoft Office, Delphi, CaterXpert preferred)
  • NYC Food Handler’s Certificate 
  • English
  • Spanish (preferred)

Executive Chef Matt Spivey’s thoughtful Italian cuisine blends the rich cultures of both New York City and Rome. Sourced from its local family of farmers and suppliers, Maialino integrates quality, seasonal ingredients throughout the menu, including Executive Pastry Chef Jessica Weiss’ beautiful, rustic desserts. The restaurant is open continuously throughout the day, serving breakfast, lunch, weekend brunch, dinner, and late night, as well as to-go coffee and pastries.
