Customer Care Associates will be responsible for all aspects of the patient billing processes, including responding to patient inquiries and having vast knowledge of the patient statements and collections process. This position requires excellent customer service skills along with good verbal and written communication skills.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Answer inbound patient calls
- Return patient calls daily and assist them with their questions regarding billing statements
- Fully understand and follow all guidelines pertaining to HIPAA and PHI
- Resolve patient issues by researching the patient’s account and correcting insurance information, demographics, and any other pertinent account information
- Communicate any patient questions or visit information back to the client as outlined in the standard operating procedure
- Complete all aspects of statement processing for assigned clients in a timely, accurate, and high-quality manner; processing tasks include, but are not limited to, statement preparation, submission, and reconciliation
- Complete all aspects of collection processing for assigned clients in a timely, accurate, and high-quality manner; collection tasks include, but are not limited to, collection letter preparation, submission, and reconciliation
- Successfully work within a team environment to escalate questions and outstanding work appropriately
- Own and manage open patient inquiry cases through full resolution
- Assist, train, and consult with other departments as needed
- Participate in the continuing education of applicable software and hardware
- Participate in departmental and other meetings as requested
- Ensure that management is made aware of client issues or problems in a timely manner
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma/GED
- AS Degree or BS Degree preferred
- Healthcare experience a plus
- Medical software experience a plus
- Medical Office experience a plus
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to articulate and communicate complex topics to a broad audience
- Strong customer services skills and a high level of professionalism
- Strong desire to learn
- Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Able to manage a variety of tasks concurrently
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- While at work, this position is primarily a sedentary job and requires that the associate can work in an environment where they will consistently be seated for the majority of the workday
- This role requires that one can sit and regularly type on a keyboard the majority of the workday
- This position requires the ability to observe a computer screen for long periods of time to observe their own and others’ work, as well as in-coming and out-going communications via the computer and/or mobile devices
- Must be able to work remotely, manage workload efficiently, prioritize projects with minimal supervision, and maintain a quiet setting while working with customers
- The role necessitates the ability to listen and speak clearly to customers and other associates
