Octo is currently seeking Enterprise Platform Engineer to join a growing team on an exciting and highly visible project for a DoD customer.

Background:

The Octo team is seeking a principal Enterprise Platform Engineer with senior knowledge and senior hands-on experience building multi-region cloud based systems. You will provide macro-level architectural solutions of a multi-region cloud based infrastructure, a cross-cutting application and integration architecture, and a data management and analytics architecture, and provide specialized training to our product teams building on the enterprise platform.

This project will feature strategic team members co-located with the product teams, primarily in the Boston, MA Area, to support a culture of continuous improvement across the teams.

Description: 

The Enterprise Platform Engineer will design and create a deployment topology consisting of geographically dispersed environments that are resilient, fault-tolerant, and consistent across all environments (e.g. development, testing, and production) and domains.

The successful candidate must demonstrate experiencing modeling for the following external platform dependencies:

  • Configured IaaS and infrastructure environment with available administrator credentials.
  • Configured networking (e.g. subnets and security groups).
  • Created a defined storage policy and an additional NFS- or Amazon S3–compatible blobstore (for both the BOSH blobstore and Cloud Foundry blobstore).
  • Create and configure external load balancer(s) to point to the GoRouter IP addresses.
  • Configure DNS records, including defining appropriate system, app, and any other required wildcard domains along with SSL certificates.
  • Define and configure OIDC, SAML, LDAP, or SSO for use with Cloud Foundry, applications running on Cloud Foundry, integration with local directory services, and integration with DoD enterprise security services (e.g. OCSP/CRL, Attribute stores) and applications that where required.

Skills & Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Experience with architecting and migrating applications to the Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) cloud environments with a firm understanding of factors involved in being cloud native
  • Experience with Chef, Puppet, BOSH, or related automation / orchestration tools
  • Experience with application platforms and container technologies such as Cloud Foundry, Heroku, Elastic Beanstalk, or Kubernetes.
  • Experience with systems monitoring, alerting and analytics (NewRelic, AppDynamics, Cacti, Graphite, Logstash, Nagios, Ganglia, Splunk, vROPS, Datadog, etc.)
  • Experience working with any of the following: VMware vSphere / ESXi / NSX-V / NSX-T
  • Experience working with any of the following:  Linux / Unix / Windows systems
  • Experience working with any of the following networking and related technologies: (e.g. load balancing / DNS / SSL / firewalls / NAT / DNS / NTP / SAML, oAuth 2, and Active Directory)
  • Experience with any of the following:  Identity and Access Management (IDAM) technologies and/or solutions (e.g. OpenID Connect, PKI, MFA)

 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience of working with Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) and the ability to provide expertise for operational management of Pivotal Cloud Foundry on monitoring, management, disaster recovery, security compliance/auditing, networking, storage, service brokers and buildpacks
  • VMWare Certifications or equivalent industry credentials in at least one (1) of the following: Data Center Virtualization, Network Virtualization, Cloud Management and Automation.
  • A software development or DevOps automation background.
  • Experience with Site Reliability Engineering concepts and practices such as SLI’s, SLO’s & error budgets.

 

Education: Bachelors in a Technical Discipline – Computer Science, Mathematics, or equivalent technical degree
