Octo Consulting Group is seeking a Business Analyst to join our growing team in Washington, DC. The Federal government needs requirements development and management support along with business analysis and planning support to include conducting requirements reviews, managing and tracing requirements, facilitating requirements workshops and providing requirements best practices coaching and training. This consultant will help mature the Agency’s Requirements Management program and will be responsible for providing business analysis and requirements development and management expertise to a Federal client.


  • Work on multiple, simultaneous requirements efforts by assessing the business needs, defining goals and objectives, and decomposing requirements to successive levels of detail
  • Provide analytical expertise to capture business goals and objectives for each supported office
  • Develop, analyze and document business requirements using a business-process mapping approach that is tailored and targeted to a specific audience
  • Train and coach business stakeholders on the importance of applying proper requirements management techniques and requirements best practices
  • Effectively communicate and convey a thorough understanding of the requirements management lifecycle and hierarchy to stakeholders
  • Facilitate and support business use case workshops and capture information
  • Effectively manage relationships and engagements with business and technical stakeholders to elicit and gather requirements
  • Analyze business process flows to develop activity models and detailed requirements
  • Leverage all captured information to develop detailed requirements
  • Provide expertise in Requirements Management and Business Analysis
  • Create and maintain the Business Requirements Document (BRD) and Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM)
  • Provides recommendations for process improvements based on lessons learned
Skills & Requirements
  • Skills & Requirements

    • At least 8 years of post-collegiate professional experience
    • At least 5 years of experience in Business Analysis, Acquisition, Requirements, and/or BPR
    • Strong customer relationship management, communication (written and verbal) and consulting skills
    • Organized and process-oriented business analyst professional with great attention to detail
    • Ability to quickly adjust and adapt to changing client demands
    • Proficient with MS Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Visio)

    Desired Skills

    • Familiar with the Requirements Management Life Cycle (RMLC) and Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) (i.e., Waterfall and Agile methodology)
    • Experience developing and reviewing Business Requirements Documents (BRD), Statements of Work (SOW), and Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTM)
    • Ability to effectively explain the characteristics of a “good requirement”
    • Technical expertise and ability to effectively explain technology to business stakeholders


    • Bachelor’s Degree is required
