Octo Consulting Group is seeking a SharePoint Developer to join our growing team.  As a SharePoint Developer, you will be responsible for working with the customer, business analyst, and other developers to develop new solutions and provide operations and maintenance support.


  • Design, develop, configure, and deploy custom SharePoint 2013 solutions.
  • Oversee and execute migration from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013.
  • Complete assignments according to the established deadlines.
  • Balance priorities and work load across multiple projects and multiple developers as needed.
  • Provide accurate estimates of effort required to complete assignments.
  • Coordinate and support Agile Scrum activities as needed (e.g. sprint planning, daily scrum, task estimation, and retrospectives) to address backlog items including new user stories as well as defects within application product backlogs.
  • Work with Business Analysts and the customer to understand functional and technical requirements.
  • Participate in solution design and concept visualization, create user interface mockups, prototypes and demo solutions to stakeholders.
  • Create documentation including design documents, standard operating procedures, system and maintenance documentation, and assist with training documentation.
  • Facilitate code and design reviews with Architect and Developer teams.
  • Design, develop, test and debug software solutions while following software development process, coding, and configuration management standards.
  • Create and administer sites and site collections.
  • Research and evaluate alternative solutions and recommend the most effective software development approach.
  • Setup and Configure development virtual machines as needed.
  • Implement SharePoint-based workflows as well as the development of Business Intelligence dashboards.
  • Prepare deployment scripts and coordinate with Farm Admin team for deployments, including troubleshooting deployment issues.
  • Monitor and provide maintenance of solution applications.
  • Assist with permissioning of sites.
  • Enhance customer applications to increase ease-of-use and add new functionality.
  • Maintain SharePoint applications including troubleshooting and debugging issues.
  • Perform platform/applications maintenance support, deploying sub-sites, site subscriptions, feature sets, applications, and services.
  • Prepare and document user guides and related documentation.


Skills & Requirements


  • Minimum of five (5) years of SharePoint Development experience.
  • Experience designing, developing, and deploying Custom SharePoint applications using C# & ASP.NET.
  • Strong experience with front end and backend SharePoint customization.
  • Experience managing customer/project strategies
  • Strong executive communication skills
  • In-depth understanding of a consulting environment
  • Experience developing web applications utilizing JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and XML.
  • Experience configuring SharePoint term stores to manage metadata and Content Types.
  • Experience creating and modifying SharePoint design with master pages, page layouts, CSS, & SharePoint Designer.
  • Experience deploying custom Web Parts, Features, Style Sheets, Site definitions using Visual Studio.
  • Experience using PowerShell scripts to automate SharePoint deployment and other SharePoint activities.
  • Debug SharePoint code.
  • Perform  analysis and make recommendation regarding reporting and dash board capabilities using SQL Server databases or third party tools such as Telerik or HighCharts.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of infrastructure, architecture, and administration services related to SharePoint.
  • Expert knowledge of Out of the Box features such as creating subsites, document management, forms, workflows, etc.
  • Experience developing Web Applications using C# ASP.NET Web Forms and MVC
  • Experience with SharePoint’s application services framework including implementation, configuration, and usages of Search, Managed Metadata, and User Profile Services.
  • Experience with SharePoint Records Center and Records Management.
  • Experience writing Stored Procedures, complex SQL queries, and analyzing SQL data.  
  • Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services, SQL Server Analysis Services, and/or SQL Server Integration Services a plus.
  • Expert knowledge of SharePoint design and development best practices.

Other desired skills:

  • Must have a strong programming background authoring well written, well documented, modular and clean code.
  • Hands-on experience using AWS and/or Azure cloud platforms, familiarity with IaaS, PaaS and cloud concepts.
  • Experience developing custom software applications.
  • Experience with SharePoint 2016 and SharePoint Online.
  • Experience developing with SharePoint App Model.
  • Experience building responsive web applications.
  • Experience with mobile application development including iOS Native
  • Demonstrated experience in IT concepts and practices.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to communicate solutions effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high quality/error free deliverables.
  • Must be motivated, independent and self-sufficient.
  • Able to receive an assigned task and see it through to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Must be well organized, a good communicator, able to effectively prioritize tasks, and manage your projects from concept to production.
  • Must be able to write thorough and concise functional and design specifications as well as easily readable end user documentation.
  • Must be well able to brainstorm with others, thrive in a collaborative team environment, multi-task, and quickly adapt to change.
  • Possess leadership skills and ability to be led in a manner that is healthy for our positive and productive work environment.


Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or related discipline.

Clearance: US Citizenship required in order to obtain a Public Trust clearance

Location & Hours:  Onsite in Washington, DC during core business hours.
