Job Description

Octo Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Data/Information Architect to join our growing team in support of a critical mission for one of our Federal customers.

 Responsibilities:

  • Work with business, process teams, and leaders, to understand their business information requirements and to classify, organize, make available and govern the data needed to meet those requirements
  • Support the development of integrated data models and artifacts identifying as-is, planned, and to-be mission data and supporting metadata.
  • Facilitate data modeling sessions, ranging from information gathering to model validation.
  • Review and employ database schemas to document Physical Data Models and develop LDMs, and dictionaries.
  • Support the development of integrated data models and artifacts identifying as-is, planned, and to-be mission data and supporting metadata.
  • Develop and employ guidelines, standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and recommended practices for maintaining and developing data models and data dictionaries.
  • Employ data modeling tools and associated graphical methods to depict and analyze current and proposed conceptual, logical, and physical data schema.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to the customer’s organization in the application of data management principles, standards, procedures, and tools
  • Advise management relative to data warehouses, metadata, and common data collections
  • Prepare and maintain database documentation and standards
  • Prepare documentation for technical architecture review and acquisition of development and execution environment components
  • Identify and provide documentation and recommendations for the acceptance or mitigation of any issues and risks associated with requirements, proposed systems, solutions, development, designs, plans and timelines.
  • Identify and provide documentation that provides all necessary detail regarding the impact of the technical architecture; design and development to other existing systems; and if the impact increases the risk or has a negative impact to the other systems, provide mitigation strategy recommendations.
  • Work closely with Government technical architecture staff and independently lead the identification and resolution of issues/problems within the technical infrastructure.
  • Identify development iterations, focus team development of prototypes and sample code that can be used by developers.
  • Provide knowledgeable solutions to resolve complex internal and external issues that can impact the success of the project.
  • Interact with technologists, management, project management, developers, and other technical leads throughout the period of performance.
Skills & Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Planning technical architecture, design and development of applications and data storage for complex systems, software and system development methodologies such as SCRUM, AGILE, and Waterfall, Hardware, COTS and open source analysis and selection; and bridging the business aspects and the technical aspects of delivering complex systems including the ability to productively interact with resistant and/or change adverse stakeholders. 
  • Design multi-domain MDM solution using Informatica MDM multi-domain and PowerCenter COTS tools in a client/server and/or service-oriented architecture (SOA) environment, including understanding of technical architecture, MDM architecture style, network design, application development, middleware, servers and storage, database management, and operations.
  • Data Migration and ETL experience from legacy to next generation systems
  • Technical expertise to include: Talend ESB, IBM IIB, J2EE, Exari, Drupal, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Subversion, Agile, DevOps and Java Based Workflow/BPM,  and Office 365 including SharePoint
  • Expertise or Knowledge of Extensible Markup Language (XML) editors
  • Expertise or Knowledge of SOA Technologies
  • Data modeling, including reverse and forward engineering.
  • Knowledge of database design principles
  • Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with information architecture concepts (Common Information Model/Canonical Data Model, Enterprise Information Management, Metadata Management, Data Governance, and Master Data Management).
  • Experience with data modeling, data mapping, data profiling, and data quality
  • Self-starter, well organized, extremely detail-oriented and an assertive team player, willing to take ownership of responsibilities, and possess a high level of positive energy and drive
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work well under pressure and effectively handle concurrent demands to prioritize responsibilities

Education:  Bachelor of Science

Location: 

  • On-site meetings, supports and operations shall be performed at 10903 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland, 20993. Otherwise work will be performed at Reston or Alexandria, VA

Other Considerations: This position is W-2 only; no Corp-to-Corp or 1099 candidates.Relocation will not be offered. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation. Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of time.
