Octo is currently seeking an Information Assurance/Security Specialist to join a growing team on an exciting and highly visible Operations & Maintenance project for a DoD customer.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) for classified computers in DoD, finance, and cloud computing environments.
  • Maintain day-to-day security posture and continuous monitoring of IS including security event log review and analysis.
  • Ensure system security measures comply with applicable government policies. Provide configuration management and accurately assess the impact of modifications and vulnerabilities for each system.
  • Maintain thorough understanding of JSIG and NIST 800-53 controls, and determine which controls are applicable to the application, as well as document implementation in Security Controls Traceability Matrix.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) to maintain appropriate operation information assurance (IA) posture for programs
  • Conduct reviews and technical inspections to identify and mitigate potential security weaknesses, and ensure that all security features applied to a system are implemented and functional.
  • Support, manage, and ensure optimal performance of enterprise finance web applications and systems such as document management, quality management and enterprise resource planning software.
  • Assist in troubleshooting mid-tier application issues and develop resolutions.
  • Install new releases, system upgrades, and patches to enterprise applications, as required.
  • Maintains individual and department goals and completes projects in a timely fashion.
  • Must be able to participate in business meetings and help drive the strategic vision for all applications.
  • Partner with the Lead ISSM in monitoring and resolving Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) to mitigate system vulnerabilities on assigned Information Systems
  • Draft, assist, and/or prepare and maintain security Assessment and Authorization documentation.
  • System level configuration and auditing to ensure integrity of the security support structure of classified systems.
  • Author and maintain System Security Plans in accordance with applicable government guidance and directives.
  • Coordinating requested system changes with the ISSM, Configuration Control Board and government approvers.
  • Continuously review systems for potential vulnerabilities and implement appropriate risk mitigation efforts.
  • Maintain all classified computer systems in inspection-ready state at all times.
  • Investigate security incidents to include data spills, data integrity incidents, and malicious code incident.
  •  Scanning systems for STIG compliance.
  • Work with the security staff with overall security functions

Skills & Requirements
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Experience as an ISSO/M implementing NISPOM Chapter 8, DoD Manual 5205.07 series, DCID 6/3, ICD 503, NIST 800-53 and/or JSIG IS requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD 8570 certification within 6 months of being hired.
  • Previous work experience in configuring the security controls of various operating systems.
  • Maintains awareness of upcoming customer / government driven changes and challenges and suggests approaches to meet those challenges.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related field with 5 years’ experience in Information System Security, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
