Job Description

Octo Consulting Group is seeking a Test Automation Engineer to work with Business Customers, Developers, and other Software QA staff to develop testing requirements, set-up test plans, and then execute those plans.  This position focuses on building test cases, executing test cases and documenting software defects.


  • Specifying, designing, implementing and testing automation framework in Java using testing tools such as Selenium and Apache JMeter.
  • Executing automated tests on multiple environments using multiple browsers.
  • Expanding automation framework to provide additional test capabilities such as integration testing.
  • Designing, coding and documenting automated test cases within a defined framework to ensure quality of our product.
  • Translating existing manual regression test cases into automated tests.
  • Analyzing existing systems to find areas for improvement.
  • Conducting diagnostic analysis and troubleshooting to resolve complex software issues.
  • Evolving automated test framework to achieve higher test throughout, with increased accessibility and test execution flexibility.
  • Develops, maintains, and upgrades automated test scripts and architectures for application products. Writes, implements, and reports status for system test cases for testing. Analyzes test cases and provides regular progress reports.
  • Serves as SME providing testing know-how for the support of user requirements of complex to highly complex software/hardware applications. 
  • Directs and/or participates in all phases of risk management assessments and software/hardware development with emphasis on analysis of user requirements, test design and test tools selection.
Skills & Requirements
  • 3+ years of practical experience in automation tools such as Selenium and Apache JMeter
  • 5+ years of experience with relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, etc.
  • 5+ years of related professional experience
  • Experience with performance, load, stress, system migration, data interface, and data migration testing
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a collaborative environment as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Expertise in analyzing, troubleshooting and resolving complex issues.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills, with a commitment to delivering on aggressive deadlines.
  • Experience with analyzing test data, using configuration management tools, and testing applications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience testing complex, multi-tiered web-based systems and complex data-driven applications.
  • Knowledge of Agile Scrum methodology, DevOps, Continuous Build.

Other Considerations: This position is W-2 only. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation. Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of time.
