Octo Consulting Group is seeking a junior-level test engineer who possesses attention to detail, ability to quickly attain new skills and desire to learn state-of-the-art automation techniques to assist the team in transition from manual to automated testing in support of a DoD/Navy Procurement System. The candidate will support the SeaPort project effort in multiple aspects of testing, including execution of manual test cases and conversion of written test cases to standardized format in preparation of automation.

Candidate’s responsibilities include:

  • Execute manual test cases
  • Convert written test cases to a standardized format in preparation of test case automation
  • Review and understand requirements
  • Prepare test data for test scenarios
  • Update test cases to reflect requirement changes
  • Collaborate with test team to understand the testing efforts
  • Document actual and expected results
  • Document and report on identified testing issues
  • Participate in process improvement activities
  • Actively participate in project team meetings as required

Candidate’s preferred qualifications include:

  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
  • Understanding of the software development life cycle
  • Ability to design, execute test cases and report results


  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 0-1 years’ experience in software testing
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.


  • Eligible for DoD Secret clearance

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc.
  • Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of time

 Work Environment:

  • Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area
  • The noise level in this environment is low to moderate
