 Job Responsibilities

• Continuous Surveillance: Actively watch for sparks, smoldering materials, or flames, focusing solely on fire safety during hot work.
• Pre-Work Inspection: Inspect the area before work begins to identify hazards and ensure flammable materials are removed or shielded.
• Fire Equipment Preparedness: Maintain immediate access to fire extinguishers or fire hoses and know how to use them.
• Post-Work Monitoring: Remain in the area for at least 30 minutes after hot work ends to watch for delayed fires.
• Emergency Response: Attempt to extinguish incipient-stage fires and, if necessary, activate the alarm to initiate emergency procedures.
• Communication & Authority: Maintain clear communication with hot work operators and have the authority to stop work immediately if a fire hazard is detected.
• Documentation: Log, when required, the details of hot work, including times, locations, and safety checks.

Skills & Experience

• Vigilance: Constant observation of hot work (welding, cutting) areas for sparks and smoldering fires.
• Emergency Response: Ability to use fire extinguishing equipment, initiate site-specific emergency protocols, and sound alarms.
• Hazard Recognition: Identifying potential hazards and monitoring atmosphere for flammable gas (using detectors).
• Communication: Clearly communicating with workers and reporting hazards to supervisors.
• Physical Fitness: Ability to stand for long periods and work in confined or high-pressure environments.
