The Work You'll Do:
The EMEA Regulatory Analysis & Design team based in Portugal, Sweden, and Germany, offers interesting and challenging research work in a multinational environment within the cutting-edge and technology-driven fiscal compliance space. Our team is truly global. While physically located in a handful of countries, we have roots in places such as Albania, Chile, Brazil, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Romania, Sweden, and the United States. Together, we provide the regulatory intelligence that powers our suite of products.
Our work within the EMEA team includes global regulatory research relating to electronic invoicing and tax reporting as well as periodic VAT filing. The subject matter of your research will not only include standard regulatory changes but also involves tracking technical changes and information security updates. In short, our job is to identify, track, and analyze governmentally imposed changes so that they are accounted for in our solution before they take effect. The Regulatory Analysis team works closely with Product Management to ensure that our products meet relevant legal requirements. In essence, we co-design our solutions with our colleagues in Product and Technology. If you are interested in the intersection of tax and technology, this is the place for you.
As a Senior Regulatory Counsel, you will be tasked with the research and monitoring work described above for your assigned jurisdictions as well as reviewing the work of junior team members for accuracy and completeness. As a senior team member you will carry research responsibilities for our highest profile initiatives and will be expected to independently support customer-facing, cross-functional, and thought leadership functions. We are an AI-enabled company, so you should be comfortable using such tools as a critical part of your research process.
More specifically, you will:
- Proactively and continually monitor legislative and regulatory developments concerning electronic invoicing, digital reporting, and related fiscal obligations across supported jurisdictions.
- As a senior member of the team, you will be expected to help shape research priorities, mentor junior team members, and contribute to the strategic direction of the Regulatory Analysis function.
- Develop an understanding of the technology behind our solutions to provide meaningful insight on the impact of new and evolving legal requirements to our existing offerings.
- Explain complex legal requirements in clear language for internal and external audiences (e.g., workshops, direct customer inquiries/conference calls, webinars, blogs, and speaking engagements.)
- Robustly support Sovos colleagues directly involved in designing, building, implementing, supporting, and maintaining Sovos solutions.
- Develop a strong working knowledge of Sovos' Regulatory Affairs function and support the team's engagement with public authorities as needed.
- Work continuously with Sovos Alliances, Sales Engineering, Product Management, and other relevant functions to develop and maintain a robust understanding of Sovos’ ecosystem and the specific business processes and associated compliance needs that arise in that context.
- In collaboration with Sovos Marketing and partner management functions, participate as a Sovos regulatory thought leader and subject matter expert in webinars, advisory boards, external speaking engagements and publications.
What We Need From You
