Job Description

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the repair, maintenance and installation of machines, tools and equipment and for the maintenance of buildings, grounds and utility systems of the plant by performing the following duties personally or through assigned maintenance staff.

 

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1.      Schedules and completes repairs, maintenance and installation of equipment, machines, tools, etc., to insure their continuous operation and/or availability.

2.      Coordinates special/new equipment installation with management and vendors.

3.      Coordinates with subcontractors and outside services to maintain equipment and facilities as needed.

4.      Establishes preventive maintenance schedules and coordinates maintenance with managers, engineers and other supervisors to minimize equipment downtime.

5.      Conducts visual and operational inspection of equipment to insure proper operation.

6.      Maintains laboratory and general plant cleanliness and organization by coordinating efforts with assigned personnel.

7.      Requisitions tools, equipment and supplies required to maintain plant operations.

8.      Coordinates work with Operations and Management keeping personnel informed of workload, maintenance schedules, etc.  Requests assistance and gives support as needed.

9.      Assists in planning and layout of laboratory, production and office areas.  Coordinates efforts with outside contractors where applicable.

 

10.   Participates in budgeting and forecasting of capital equipment needs, justifying expense based on cost reductions, productivity increases, etc.

 

11.    Assists supervisory or engineering staff in the equipment planning process.

 

12.    Assists management in setting budget for direct and indirect expenses; helps to control cost to meet these budgets.

 

13.      Works to meet company vision and metric goals.

 
Skills & Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme heat; explosives; and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
