Job Description

Title:               Technical Supervisor


Supervises: Typically responsible for leading, coordinating, monitoring and supervising the work of 5-10 employees. Supervisory responsibilities typically include training, verifying the work of team members and ensuring that supplies and materials are available.


To provide CNC Programming and Engineering support to Production. The Technical Supervisor is primarily responsible for planning, organizing and formulating operational programs for numerical control machines through the development of methods engineering to provide optimum utilization of the machine facilities, capacities and tooling arrangements.


1. Lay out process and sequences, tooling requirements, machine set up instructions and details for multiple and complex machining operations on detailed work requiring strict inspection requirements.

2. Works largely from part drawings, machine and electronic control data and specifications, utilizing established methods and standards when applicable.

3. Aligns and codes, and steps for tool operations, speeds, feeds and work piece positions to conform with operational sequences.

4. Observes and verifies setups and operations for prove-outs to assure proper methodology, sequences, tooling arrangements and quality of completed work.

5. Works closely with Tooling Department and Manufacturing personnel to plan new work relative to tooling requirements and production library, records and reference files.

6. Create/write programs for various machines:

                a. OKK/Fanuc

            b. Vigel 320/Fanuc

            c. Vigel TW500/Siemens

            d. SW800

            e. SW BA-600/622/Siemens

            f. SW W06-22/Siemens

            g. Mazak FH-6800/Fanuc


7. Optimize CNC programs and trouble shoot problems.


8. Establish Cutting Parameters for tooling and trouble shoot when required. Assist Tool Crib Attendant in ordering tools as needed, assist engineers/vendors in tooling selection.



  • Strong background in machining, assembly and adjustment process and tooling.

  • Draftsight/AutoCad

  • SolidWorks

  • Cutting Parameters (Speeds & Feeds) include RPM, SFM, MM/MIN, IPM, IPR, FPT

  • Right Angle Trigonometry

  • Knowledge of Metric system

  • Tool and Fixture Builds

  • Development of Tool Package

  • Champion the completion of ECR/ECN documents

  • Strong knowledge of GD&T

  • Advanced knowledge reading CMM reports

  • Knowledge/Understanding prints in relation to Fixtures, Tooling and Machining

  • Knowledge of Cutting Tools

  • Consigned Tool, Gage and Fixture Tracking

  • Proficient in MS Office

  • Advanced Mathematics

  • Strong organizational, planning and documentation skills

  • Ability to coach and develop employees

  • Ability to communicate with multiple levels of people effectively-in group and individual settings

  • Ability to effectively communicate with vendors/suppliers/customers

  • Ability to learn new programs, activities and tasks

  • 5 years’ experience in a Manufacturing Engineering or similar role preferred but not mandatory
