MHP application and background check required

If selected as a provider for this clinical service position, you will be required to provide proof of education and transcripts (and proof of licensure, if applicable) and pass all required background checks prior to hire.   You will also be required to complete MHP’s credentialing process and attend new hire orientation/training before you will be able to begin work.


To assist people with mental illnesses, including those in dual recovery, in obtaining optimal functioning and quality of life, by providing clinical services and education.

Job Summary: 

Develop and carry out a consistent plan of treatment, from intake and assessment to closure. 

Essential Functions:

  • Guided by 27-65 requirements and best clinical practices, provides individual and group psychotherapy and teaches psychoeducation
  • Documents provision of services, assessments, evaluations and treatment goals and plan consistent with clinical and administrative policies and procedures
  • Provides a variety of case management services, including managing Social Security payeeships, assisting clients to apply for various types of public assistance and providing supporting documentation, attending multi-agency clinical case consultations, and facilitating referrals to other organizations
  • Participates in internal consultation and supervision with team members and other professionals in the organization
  • Collaborate with clients, other treatment team members, DHHS, doctors, hospitals, medical clinics, housing programs, etc. to provide the best service to the clients
  • Provides external consultation and referrals to other organizations
  • Maintains contact with clients in distress, including assisting with hospitalization
  • Participates in multidisciplinary focus groups, committees, and task forces charged with researching and improving clinical practices and developing or updating programs and business processes
  • Provides clinical services required by special programs and projects
  • Meets defined individual and department goals, activity metrics and Key Performance Indicators
  • Promotes, supports and demonstrates MHP’s mission, vision and values through both behavior and job performance and adheres to policies, procedures, Compliance Plan and Standards of Conduct on a day to day basis
  • Effectively interacts and communicates with other MHP staff/clients/customers/partners/etc.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required to perform other essential functions of the job
  • Other duties as assigned

Specialized Duties: 

Home Based Team – Therapist (Child, Family and Adolescent)

  • Coordinates care with family member and volunteer youth advocates, if applicable
  • Participates in court hearings as needed
  • Must have knowledge of and skills in childhood trauma symptomology and treatment, child/adolescence development, family systems, attachment, abuse/neglect, substance abuse, psychopharmacology, and evidence based practices such as DBT, CBT, MI and brief solution focused treatment model 
  • Must have a sophisticated understanding of appropriate parenting strategies with children demonstrating significant mental and behavioral health symptomology (ages 3-18 y/o)
  • Familiarity with attachment and family systems theory preferred
  • Knowledge of child development norms
  • Ability to observe and assess parent/child interactions
  • Ability to manage challenging situations related to traumatic exposure of clients
  • Knowledge of community services for families with the ability to support agency partnerships
  • Must have current CO Driver’s License and a safe driving record and ability to travel within Boulder and Broomfield counties to deliver services in the community



Skills & Requirements


  • Training in CBT, DBT, and Solution-Focused Therapy, preferred  
  • Experience with play therapy, trauma modalities such as TF, CBT or EMDR
  • Experience doing in home family work
  • Experience working with families and families involved in the child welfare system

         Therapist I:

  • Masters in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related field plus 1 to 2-year internship and 0 – 1 year prior experience in a clinical setting
  • Must be license eligible and actively working toward licensure Licensed PhD or PsyD, Licensed Clinical Social worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage/Family Therapist (LMFT)

         Therapist II:

  • Masters in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related field plus 1 to 2-year internship and 3-7 years prior experience in a clinical setting OR: Related PhD or PsyD plus zero to three years prior experience in a clinical setting
  • Licensed PhD or PsyD, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage/Family Therapist (LMFT) required       


  • Ability to meet direct service expectations and to complete documentation within required timeframes
  • Strong collaborative skills
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage difficult or emotional situations
  • High degree of professionalism
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Highly self-motivated but works well in a team setting
  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to make appropriate referrals
  • Must be competent in working with people of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Advanced computer skills including use of electronic health record and MS Office products and the ability to learn new tools as needed
  • Bicultural/Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

Working Environment

  • General office environment
  • Must be able to work in a shared office space with frequent interruptions
  • May include working with people in acute distress or crisis
  • May require travel to several MHP sites throughout Boulder and Broomfield counties to attend meetings
