Position Summary:
Responsible for supporting the planning, directing, and implementation of a comprehensive safety program that ensures a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment for all EnergyUnited employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct monthly crew observations of Operations personnel performing high-risk work activities.
- Inspect work locations, tools, vehicles, equipment, including warehouses and Pole yards.
- Assess work areas for safety hazards.
- Provide inspection data to the Safety Manager for analysis.
- Assist the Safety Manager in identifying and conducting safety training.
- Assess Cooperative compliance with applicable regulations.
- Recommend changes needed to improve the safety of all departments.
- Prepare and submit purchase requisitions for materials and supplies.
- Monitor changes in regulatory requirements and take appropriate actions to stay compliant.
- Assist managers with safety meeting information requests and discussions.
- Assist in the investigation of all accidents where there is either personal injury or significant property damage. Evaluate and recommend corrective action.
- Assist the Safety Manager with Investigations when any event requires further information and analysis.
- Assess cooperative training needs, recommend and develop appropriate training programs.
- Maintain records of training.
- Maintain the required credentials to conduct safety training.
- Organize and provide training for DOT requirements.
- Assist HR in maintaining CDL driver qualification files.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist HR and the Safety Manager in administering and maintaining EnergyUnited’s Worker’s Compensation program.
- Assist the Safety Manager in planning and implementing objectives.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the industry as they relate to safety and line work.
- Assist the Safety Manager in planning and implementing Cooperative safety and health objectives.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- High school graduate or equivalent. Two years college preferred. Experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- Training in supervision or safety and program planning, possession of a CLCP or CUSP, is highly desirable.
- Training in electric power transmission and distribution line construction and maintenance.
- A valid NC Driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Journeyman Lineman experience is highly desirable.
- Experience in planning, directing programs and evaluating results.
- Must have working knowledge of the safety codes, standards and regulations (such as, but not limited to, the National Electric Safety Code – NESC; Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration – FMSCA, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration - OSHA Regulations).
- Have a good basic knowledge of instructional technique and program planning.
Working Conditions – Normal working conditions and hours of 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Some irregular working hours may be required. Must be available for work during adverse weather conditions.
Internal Job Category – This position is categorized as Hybrid, which is a work arrangement that allows an employee to perform work and duties associated with this position at both an EnergyUnited Office location and their home. Will be required to report to an EnergyUnited Office location for meetings, trainings, performance reviews, etc., as deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor.
Residency Requirements – This position is classified as a Non-Direct Operational Position. All employees assigned to headquarters or non-direct operational positions must make their domicile within one of the nineteen counties served by the Cooperative or within a 40 (forty) road mile radius to any EnergyUnited EMC office.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to move freely around various work environments, including office settings, construction sites, industrial facilities, or field locations.
- Must be able to walk, stand, climb stairs or ladders, and navigate uneven terrain for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment up to 25–50 pounds occasionally.
- Sufficient vision to inspect equipment, read labels and documentation, and observe workplace conditions.
- Hearing ability to detect safety alarms and communicate effectively in noisy environments.
- Use of hands and fingers to operate safety equipment, tools, computers, and inspection devices.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments for extended periods, including long hours standing or walking during audits, inspections, or incident investigations.
- Exposure to varying environmental conditions such as heat, cold, humidity, dust, noise, or hazardous materials, depending on worksite. May require use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver’s license for travel between work locations or job sites.
