Job Description

A very "sweet" opportunity at our commercial bakery !! 

This position will be responsible for leading the 3rd shift production team in a safe, sanitary, efficient, and respectable manner while insuring that our customers consistently receive product at the highest quality level.  The Shift Manager will lead the production team activities and promote a well trained and motivated team.

Tasks:

  • Track key indicators of the production team's performance including safety, efficiency, waste, downtime, labor costs, as well as communicating these indicators to the team for further action - 20%
  • Manage shift performance against plant objectives - 20%
  • Build a strong team by communicating performance expectations; monitoring and appraising performance; providing support; coaching, training, and disciplining and enforcing internal corporate policies and procedures to Shift Coordinator and team members - 15%
  • Organize production activities in a timely and cost-effective fashion to ensure that internal and external customer needs are met - 10%
  • Coordinate the work of production team members to meet internal and external customer needs and to maximize opportunities for continuous improvement - 10%
  • Conduct and lead regular inspections to ensure machinery and equipment is well maintained and running safely according to specifications - 10%
  • Lead IPM Core Team - 5%
  • Other duties as assigned - 10%

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to 5 Production Leads and a staff of approximately 53 employees in the manufacturing of multiple lines of food production.
  • Lead safety initiatives to ensure safe working conditions for team members and compliance with all state and federal regulations on environmental, health and safety issues.
  • Instruct, train, and assure compliances of the plant's GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices) and other food safety standards.
  • Motivate team members by setting a good example with regard to safe practices, good housekeeping, organization, work quality, attitude, and follow-through.
Skills & Requirements

Skills and Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Engineering, Business Management, Supply Chain Management or related field of study preferred.  Master's Degree is a PLUS!!
  • Experience and additional training in:  Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, BRC/SQF and AIB are ideal.
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years in a production management role in a food, beverage, or CPG environment.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office, Computer and Manufacturing systems.
  • Advanced verbal, reading, writing, mathematical and cognitive skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, as well as team building and the ability to work well in a diverse culture.
  • Understanding of the manufacturing process.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with other senior managers to achieve Company and customer goals.
  • Demonstrated skill in coaching, motivating and team development.
  • Ability to work assigned hours, off-shifts and overtime (including occasional weekend and/or holiday hours).
  • Must work closely with others in a team atmosphere and independently.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds independently.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, climb, reach, lift, pull, push, stoop, squat, bend and stretch as needed throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work in variable environmental conditions (ie. hot, cool, humid)

Training:

In addition to specific hands-on machine operation, and/or area training, employees in this position will be required to successfully complete training including, but not limited to:

  • OSHA required safety training
  • Food safety training
  • GMP training
  • IPM training
  • Shop floor cross training
  • Other training as determined by the business

Travel Requirements:

May be required as needed.

This position will be required to train on 1st shift.
