Job Description

Reporting to the Transportation Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for all inbound and outbound transportation-related matters. This included syncing pick-up and delivery with Drivers in our network.

SHIFT:

  • Steady Nights.
  • 12 hour shifts: Starting 7pm to 7am.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and every other Friday. (3 on, 3 off, 4 on, 4 off shift pattern)
  • Days required may shift to cover leaves/vacation

SALARY:

  • Starting wage $47,300 (Unionized rate per CBA)
  • Top rate after 3 years $52,484.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • To ensure that the transportation schedules is executed and/or revised as necessary to maintain the company’s high standards of customer service.
  • Obtaining complete and accurate instructions when receiving phone, email or faxed orders.
  • Input orders into the dispatch system to ensure that load-tracking and on-time tracking is complete and accurate.
  • Work closely with warehouse supervisors to achieve the common goal of timely and effective delivery and customer service.
  • Communicating expected arrival and departure times to management, customer service, distribution centres, drivers and customers.
  • Overload and underload transportation planning for delivery to depots and stores.
  • Participation in daily conference calls to provide transportation information.
  • Placing service calls for tire and trailer repairs.
  • Identifying potential factors that could hinder delivery or execution in planning and logistics and communicating to the right people.
Skills & Requirements
  • Relevant post secondary education and/or previous dispatching experience, is an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a logistics or transportation work environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Must be punctual and flexible to work all shifts, including: days, nights, weekends and weekdays.
  • Must be able to multi-task, work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good organization, planning, and problem solving skills
  • Identify and resolve problems quickly and decisively
  • Knowledge familiarity with the MTO Highway Traffic Act
  • Must have strong data entry skills with attention to detail and accuracy of information.
