Food Safety Lab Technician 2nd Shift

Job Description

Job Responsibilities:           

  • Collect and prepare samples for microbiological analysis by 3rd party lab including, water samples, PEM and non-PEM hygiene swabs, air settling plates and finished product
  • Collect and analyze water samples for active chlorine levels
  • Perform water activity testing
  • Validate sanitation, organic and allergen clean-up’s through visual inspection and equipment swabbing
  • Perform vacuum oven moisture analysis and use the information to develop MCT moisture profiles for finished products
  • Perform food safety inspections: assuring all food contact areas are free from foreign material, potential pathogen contamination as well as absence of specified allergens.
  • Perform area audits for food safety & food quality compliance
  • Monitor, inspect and report in identified products for conformance to specifications and initiate holds.
  • Perform calibration of lab equipment, including salt analyzer, thermometer, moisture meter, etc.
  • Analyze finished product samples for customer complaint investigation and report findings to management
  • Inspect bulk flour samples for foreign material and adulteration
  • Perform pre-printed packaging verification
  • Verify and enter raw material COA information into IPM
  • Provide vacation coverage and overtime relief for QA Lab Personnel across shifts
  • Perform lab basic sanitation


Job Qualification Audits Required (If you are not currently qualified, you must be able to obtain these qualifications):

  • Food Safety Lab Technician
  • QA Lab Technician


Skills Needed

  • Minimum of high school level Algebra & Chemistry

  • Proficient basic computer skills (Microsoft Windows Office, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Experience with MS Access & Lotus Notes a plus

  • Must be able to work at heights (climb ladders and catwalks)

  • Must be self-starter, organized and detail-oriented

  • Knowledge of sanitation a plus

  • Knowledge of production equipment cleaning and inspection a plus

  • Associates degree in a science (microbiology, chemistry or food science) preferred

  • Prefer 2 years experience in quality

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment a plus

  • Experience with analytical measurement tools a plus

  • Knowledge of GLP and GMP’s a plus

  • Able to operate a lift-platform a plus

  • Must be able to work around very strong magnets

  • Ability to work in team and positively impact team members
