The Role

This entry-level role works with Product, Engineering, Operations, and Support teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and cost-effective software upgrade solutions that meet corporate and client standards. The primary focus is performing software upgrades and patches in customer environments, helping ensure smooth and efficient transitions. This is a great opportunity to build a foundation in cloud release engineering while learning from experienced engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform software upgrades and patches in customer-facing and internal environments, following established procedures and under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Prepare for upgrades by reviewing release notes, validating environment readiness, and confirming pre-upgrade checklists are complete.
  • Execute post-upgrade validation and testing to confirm the upgrade was successful, and escalate issues promptly.
  • Support rollback procedures when an upgrade does not go as planned.
  • Coordinate upgrade schedules and communicate status to internal teams and customers, with guidance from senior team members.
  • Assist with application and infrastructure deployments to customer-facing and internal environments.
  • Apply security patches to internal and external systems following established procedures.
  • Help create and maintain accurate documentation of upgrade procedures, runbooks, systems, and processes.
  • Support the migration of existing server environments to managed services and/or cloud-based platforms.
  • Communicate professionally and positively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to help resolve issues, applying critical thinking and learning best practices.
  • Learn customer priorities in upgrade and deployment work and share relevant feedback with senior team members.
  • Troubleshoot and debug build and upgrade issues, resolving problems quickly and asking for help when needed.
  • Assist in maintaining tooling that supports cloud-based CI/CD pipelines and upgrade automation.
  • Raise project obstacles to the team promptly and help work toward solutions.
  • Participate in cross-team knowledge sharing and develop technical skills through mentorship, training, and hands-on project work.
Skills & Requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Network Operations, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 1-2 years of professional experience with Linux, Python, SQL, and Git
  • Familiarity with software upgrade, patching, or release processes
  • Familiarity with Agile and DevOps processes and activities
  • Basic knowledge of configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible)
  • Basic knowledge of infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Terraform)
  • Basic knowledge of version control systems and workflows
  • Basic understanding of software development tools, operating systems, virtual and physical infrastructure, network topologies, and security models
  • Willingness to learn and adopt an automation-first mindset
  • Basic knowledge of build and CI/CD automation tools
  • Basic familiarity with AWS
  • Basic knowledge of relational database administration, system administration, and SQL
  • Basic understanding of network design and troubleshooting from the physical to application layers
  • Basic knowledge of source code management tools and artifact management
  • Basic knowledge of monitoring and logging tools
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills

CJIS Clearance 

A required part of the onboarding process for this role involves obtaining CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) clearance—a critical credential for safeguarding public safety data. At CentralSquare, we’ll stand with you every step of the way to secure this clearance should you be selected for hire. As part of the process, a comprehensive background check will be conducted, and please note that U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is generally required to obtain CJIS clearance.
