Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a lead Systems Engineer, the person develops and maintain stable, reliable and secure linux systems. The person mentors a team of junior Linux admins and NOC personnel to troubleshoot and optimize Vertafore’s Linux environment.

In this role, the person is expected to have strong knowledge of Oracle or Redhat Enterprise Linux, its engineering and administration. He/She has excellent problem-solving skills and Linux troubleshooting skills. The person should have passion to continuously improve services, enhance security and optimize the service performance.

 

Core Requirements and Responsibilities:

Essential job functions included but are not limited to the following:

Primarily responsible for installation, configuration, support and lifecycle management of all Linux systems, across Vertafore’s data centers, cloud and office locations

Provide expertise, and direction on Linux engineering and architecture requirements

Own, define and drive projects to support business requirements and to enhance the Linux environment performance, availability and security

Applies Quality Control and Quality Assurance principles

Interpret security advisories and design, implement and test control measures

Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to individuals of various technical ability

Writes and maintains complete and concise technical documentation

Serve as the escalation point for Linux incidents

 

 

Skills & Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong experience in managing and supporting Redhat or Oracle Enterprise Linux for hybrid data centers is a MUST.

Either RHCE or RHCA or OCP-Linux is a MUST

Experience with Windows and AWS is also required. Must be comfortable managing instance on AWS (preferred) or Azure/GCP.

Knowledge of storage, LUNs, fiber channels and related technology is required

Able to handle pressure during outages and systematically resolving issues

Experience being tasked outside their training, willing to take on and learn new technologies

Experience as an escalation engineer in a customer centric role

Experience communicating at various levels including non-technical staff, leadership, management and external customers

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in CS/IT or equivalent work experience

8 + years’ experience or certifications with Enterprise Linux is MUST

1-3 years’ experience or certifications with Windows and AWS is required

Experience managing Linux servers running databases and application servers, their kernel tuning, upgrading and patching

Must have exposure and experience with AWS (preferred) or other cloud provider.

Additional Requirements and Details:

Travel required up to 10% of the time.

Willing to visit and help with data center activities like major upgrades, critical equipment installs or for emergency troubleshooting.

A team player with collaborative and customer centric work ethics

Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds.

Frequent repetitive hand and arm movements required to operate a computer.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (working on a computer, etc.).

Frequent sitting and/or standing.

 

The Professional Services (PS) and Customer Success (CX) bonus plans are a quarterly monetary bonus plan based upon individual and practice performance against specific business metrics.  Eligibility is determined by several factors including: start date, good standing in the company, and actives status at time of payout.

The Vertafore Incentive Plan (VIP) is an annual monetary bonus for eligible employees based on both individual and company performance.  Eligibility is determined by several factors including: start date, good standing in the company, and actives status at time of payout.

Commission plans are tailored to each sales role but common components include quota, MBO's and ABPMs.  Salespeople receive their formal compensation plan within 30 days of hire.
