JOB DESCRIPTION

As a SQL Server Senior Tech Lead, you will design, implement, develop and fine-tune. You will work with a fast-paced, skilled team of engineers and developers across multiple high-profile projects. You will also participate in IT projects from the inception of the project through the daily maintenance phase of a project. Core Requirements and Responsibilities:

Essential job functions included but are not limited to the following:

  • Subject matter expert in Microsoft SQL Server, with advanced experience in T-SQL, execution plan interpretation, DMVs, and performance tuning for high-scale enterprise systems. Experience with SQL Server 2012+ is strongly preferred.
  •  Deep expertise in T-SQL and strong PL/SQL debugging skills, with practical experience troubleshooting issues across the full stack, including database code, application integration, and data access layers.
  • Strong track record of performance tuning and stabilizing legacy SQL codebases, including optimizing long-running queries, improving stored procedure efficiency, and remediating systemic database bottlenecks in production environments.
  • Extensive experience with large-scale OLTP and reporting databases, including expert-level knowledge of indexing, partitioning, schema and storage design, and database performance engineering.
  • Expected to operate at a senior/expert level, providing technical leadership, driving database design and optimization standards, and solving highly complex performance and scalability challenges.

·        Address issues such as parameter sniffing, blocking, and deadlocks.

 

Skills & Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Senior TL SQL Server Database Engineer with 10- 12 years of enterprise experience in database engineering, architecture, administration, and performance optimization.
  • Subject matter expert in SQL Server database design, architecture, and programming, with a strong focus on scalability, reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Extensive expertise in performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting in large-scale, mission-critical database environments.
  • Highly skilled in trace analysis, root cause identification, and recommending effective, long-term solutions for database issues.
  • Advanced command of Transact-SQL (T-SQL) for developing complex queries, stored procedures, functions, and performance-focused database code.
  • Experience with SQL Server DTS and SSIS for ETL, data migration, and enterprise data integration initiatives is a added advantage.
  • Working knowledge of PowerShell scripting to support automation, monitoring, and administrative efficiency.
  • Understanding of SQL Server installation, configuration, maintenance, and environment management.
  • Strong practical experience with SQL Server 2017 and its capabilities in enterprise deployments.
  • Quick learner with a demonstrated ability to adopt new technologies and deliver value rapidly.
  • Effective communicator with strong documentation, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Senior team player who fosters a positive engineering culture and leads by example through ownership and accountability.
  • Solution-oriented professional who thrives on solving new, complex, and high-impact technical challenges.
  • Goal-focused and execution-driven, with a consistent track record of delivering measurable results.
  • Proactive in learning products and business context to align technical solutions with organizational needs.
  • Skilled at multitasking and adapting to changing priorities while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities in both project and production support scenarios.
  • Proven ability to manage and deliver across multiple concurrent initiatives in demanding environments.

Qualifications

The Professional Services (PS) and Customer Success (CX) bonus plans are a quarterly monetary bonus plan based upon individual and practice performance against specific business metrics.  Eligibility is determined by several factors including: start date, good standing in the company, and actives status at time of payout.

The Vertafore Incentive Plan (VIP) is an annual monetary bonus for eligible employees based on both individual and company performance.  Eligibility is determined by several factors including: start date, good standing in the company, and actives status at time of payout.

Commission plans are tailored to each sales role but common components include quota, MBO's and ABPMs.  Salespeople receive their formal compensation plan within 30 days of hire.
