JOB DESCRIPTION 

As a Sr. Software Development Engineer in Test, you will be instrumental in Vertafore’s ongoing success within the insurance industry. Our SDETs work with our development teams, focusing on providing the best products for our valued customers. This is a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. We continually challenge ourselves to exceed objectives, remove barriers, meet crucial deadlines, and maintain multiple projects, all while pioneering ways for efficiency with a team player attitude. Core Requirements and Responsibilities: 

Essential job functions included but not limited to the following: 

 
  • Design, develop, and maintain advanced, scalable, and reusable test automation frameworks (e.g., BDD, TDD) using programming languages such as C#., Java and Python. 

  • Work within Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe), actively participating in all phases of the development lifecycle. 

  • Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Developers, and QA teams to understand business and technical requirements. 

  • Contribute to analysis, design, development, estimation, planning, support, and retrospectives throughout the Agile process. 

  • Define test strategies and create comprehensive test plans aligned with organizational quality goals. 

  • Design and implement automation frameworks for Web UI (Desktop and Web Applications), APIs, and Web Services using Selenium WebDriver, Playwright, REST Assured, Postman etc. 

  • Develop well-structured test cases and maintain detailed documentation for test plans and execution. 

  • Maintain and manage test environments, ensuring stability, configuration consistency, and readiness for automated and manual testing. 

  • Generate and manage test data for automation tests, including creating reusable data sets, managing dynamic data, and implementing data cleanup strategies. 

  • Continuously research and adopt new tools, technologies, and best practices to enhance automation efficiency and software quality. 

  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code for automated test scripts, ensuring high coverage and reliability. 

  • Demonstrate strong troubleshooting and debugging skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 

  • Identify and report software defects with clear, detailed descriptions and collaborate on resolution. 

  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines for continuous regression testing and quality assurance. 

  • Maintain and optimize CI/CD pipelines, ensuring robust automation governance and adherence to development standards. 

  • Define and monitor product quality metrics, collect and report data at project and release levels. 

  • Review application code for quality and testability, providing constructive feedback to development teams. 

  • Analyze quality metrics to identify patterns, risks, and opportunities for improvement, driving innovation and platform enhancements. 

  • Exhibit excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, working effectively both independently and in team environments. 

 

 

 

 

 

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications: 

 

 
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or related technical field) or equivalent practical experience 

  • 4–5 years of experience as an SDET with Selenium (.NET, Java) and Playwright (TypeScript/.NET) Strong expertise in test automation for Windows and Web applications  

  • Proficient in UI Automation (Selenium WebDriver, Playwright) and API Testing (REST Assured, Postman, Swagger) 

  • Proficiency in test automation tools and frameworks specific to .NET—such as Selenium WebDriver, Winapp Driver for Windows applications, Playwright combined with a solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts is required. 

  • Experience with frameworks such as BDD and TDD, including Cucumber, JUnit, and REST Assured 

  • Solid understanding of web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and RESTful APIs for testing web-based .NET applications 

  • Experience in Shift-Left Testing and Continuous Testing practices 

 

  • Hands-on experience with version control tools such as Git and Bitbucket 

  • Experience with CI/CD automation and reporting using GitLab and Jenkins 

  • Skilled in designing test strategies, test plans, and risk-based testing approaches. 

  • Experience with test and application lifecycle management tools such as qTest, Rally, JIRA, and Microfocus ALM 

  • Ability to collect, analyze, and report QA metrics including automation coverage, defect density, and MTTR 

  • Experience creating dashboards using Grafana, Report Portal, or custom reporting frameworks. 

  • Experience working with both cloud and on-premises solutions. 

  • Exposure to performance testing and hands-on experience with tools like JMeter (nice to have) 

  • Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 

  • Ability to manage a broad range of deliverables in an ever-changing environment. 

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working effectively with cross-functional teams. 

  • Ability to comprehend technical documentation clearly and effectively. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Strong time management and organizational skills 

  • Detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to handle multiple strategic projects and priorities efficiently. 

  • Inherent drive to solve problems, collaborate with others, and mentor team members. 

  • Strong presentation skills with proven ability to create technical, project, and client communications. 

  • Knowledge of design and architecture principles 

  • Experience working in Agile software development environments.

Qualifications

The Professional Services (PS) and Customer Success (CX) bonus plans are a quarterly monetary bonus plan based upon individual and practice performance against specific business metrics.  Eligibility is determined by several factors including: start date, good standing in the company, and actives status at time of payout.

The Vertafore Incentive Plan (VIP) is an annual monetary bonus for eligible employees based on both individual and company performance.  Eligibility is determined by several factors including: start date, good standing in the company, and actives status at time of payout.

Commission plans are tailored to each sales role but common components include quota, MBO's and ABPMs.  Salespeople receive their formal compensation plan within 30 days of hire.
