Zapproved is hiring a Senior Data Modeler to join our fast-growing SaaS software startup headquartered in Portland, Oregon. This role will have the opportunity to help us optimize and scale our existing SaaS offering while driving the design of the data model that will be the foundation of our new platform.  

We have a mix of relational and non-relational data stores and we are looking for candidates with experience in both. The ideal candidate will be pragmatic about technology decisions rather than focusing on one technology - “use the right tool for the job."  

What you’ll be doing:

• Create, support and maintain our data model implementations (RDBMS and NoSQL)
• Participate/lead business information modeling for large and complex projects
• Author and ensure that model implementation conforms to architectural standards
• Coordinate with product management, software developers, DBAs and management to assess data model needs, implementation details, maintenance needs and ensure integration across projects
• Contribute to research and evaluation of solutions and recommend the most optimal data management solutions for our needs

What you’ll need:

• Demonstrated experience integrating disparate systems into a cohesive model
• Experience with a range of relational and NoSQL database management systems
• Experience deploying and supporting large, complex data warehouse solutions
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams: UX, Product, Engineering, QA, and others
• Excellent active listening and analytical skills to fully understand the problem and task.
• Strong communication skills to explain and discuss your ideas with the team
• Familiarity or experience with agile team practices
• Familiarity with revision control software such as GIT

What would be nice:

• Proven track record of coordinating with stakeholders, participating in planning and coordinating with development teams using agile methodologies to successfully deliver solutions
• Ability to clearly communicate complex design solutions to audiences of varying levels of technical aptitude
• A breadth of experience with data modeling and a pragmatic approach to selecting the right tools
