The Role in Brief:

Associate Director, International Research Growth Strategy

The Associate Director, International Research Growth Strategy role is responsible for supporting strong growth and renewals in our existing markets – including the UK, Scandinavia, Australia, and New Zealand – as well as helping EAB explore and open markets in new countries. 

A major part of this role is to develop and maintain deep, actionable understanding of the “voice of the market” in higher education: anticipating competitive and regulatory changes where EAB can improve its value proposition; analyzing how partners consume EAB content to improve utilization and satisfaction; monitoring competitors to ensure EAB’s market positioning remains unique and compelling.

The second major part of the role is supporting sales and renewals. This includes analysis of general renewal drivers and diagnosing product redesign “fixes” to address any growth challenges, collateral creation to support a spectrum of sales and renewal interactions, and designing and implementing parts of the top-of-funnel marketing strategy. You will interact closely with colleagues in sales, partner success, marketing, and account management to design and execute these growth efforts.

You will also interact closely with Research product teams in setting research agendas, evolving product design, and perfecting partner use-cases for EAB product content and services. You may occasionally manage a team of 1-2 analysts on specific projects.

This role is based in Washington D.C. This position may require occasional travel (10-20%) to partner university campuses, EAB-hosted events, and industry conferences. Must possess a valid U.S. or foreign passport and the legal right to travel unrestricted to/from all states and internationally. Travel documents must remain valid throughout employment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research new potential markets/countries
  • Lead market listening interviews with existing and potential partners to assess strength and weakness of current research, and test potential new products
  • Craft marketing strategy, including key themes, event agendas, conference planning, and top-of-funnel content
  • Help Sales staff craft strategy, pitch, and/or collateral for individual sales pursuits, participating directly in some commercial interactions as needed
  • Track competitors and develop sell-against scripting
  • Build and maintain relationships with thought leaders and influencers, such as professional associations, in key markets
  • Support Partner Success teams in creating service plans for most important international partners
  • Adjust, supplement, and/or reframe research content as needed for international audiences
  • Analyze existing product sales and renewal performance to develop priorities for sales and renewals
  • Manage and coach junior-level researcher staff on specific projects, as needed, by developing critical skills, providing actionable feedback, and managing workloads

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, with an excellent academic record and 5+ years of post-graduate, professional experience; or 4+ years of post-graduate, professional experience and advanced degree
  • Proven analytic skills and ability to translate market findings into commercial strategy and product innovations
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues and external partners
  • Proven ability to manage staff and lead teams to deliver high-quality projects on time
  • Exceptional project management, prioritization, and delegation skills, especially in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working with education executives, either at a college, university, K-12 school, or district, or as a consultant/advisor to education partners

Ideal Qualifications

  • MBA or advanced degree
  • Management or strategy consulting experience
  • Proven ability to successfully work in a matrixed organization
  • Experience with solution-focused problem solving and thinking through problems creatively
  • Experience with new product or business development
  • Experience working with clients in a consultative role
