The Role in Brief:

K-12 Short-Term Team Research Manager

EAB’s K-12 Research Practice works with 250+ public school districts and independent schools across North America. We work with superintendents, heads of school, and senior-most executives on issues related to teacher recruitment and professional development, student mental health and well-being, and ensuring strong and equitable student academic outcomes.

Our research focuses on schools’ most pressing quality and productivity issues, performing rigorous root cause analysis and conducting hundreds of interviews with thought leaders to identify effective best practices that are shared with the membership through a series of national roundtable meetings, onsite workshops, webinars and publications.

This role is based in Washington, D.C.

Primary Responsibilities:

The K-12 Short-Term Team Research Manager is responsible for the selection, onboarding, training, and ongoing coaching and management of a team of Research Associates. The Research Manager is also responsible for managing individual research requests from intake through to completion (including Ask EAB cases and custom research reports). The Research Manager plays a critical role in crafting internal processes, systems, and initiatives to support the completion of high-quality projects within deadline.

  • Staff Management
    • Manage Research Associate (RA) performance and workload according to RA abilities and member needs
    • Manage RA team’s career progress, from interviewing and onboarding to promotion
    • Provide informal feedback and coaching to RAs through editing processes and daily interactions
    • Provide formal feedback regarding performance on an annual basis
  • Process Management
    • Manage multiple projects with little oversight, balancing secondary activities with minimal assistance
    • Work with RA team to create processes and systems that maximize researcher productivity
    • Attend to data and administrative tasks on a regular basis to assist internal and external constituents in accessing research content
    • Oversee RA team’s execution of subject matter expert request triage process and liaise with Research and K-12 leadership
  • Project Management and Quality
    • Edit written deliverables to ensure high-quality product, including email scripting and custom research projects
    • Appropriately scope projects from members, balancing the needs of the member with the team’s capacity and capability
  • Member Management
    • Design, manage, and edit research requests to meet or exceed member needs
    • Serve as main member contact on many projects assigned to RA team
    • Develop issues-based relationships with members nationwide
    • Build and maintain specialty topic expertise/knowledge as needed
  • Program Management
    • Coordinate closely with Account Management colleagues on partner management
    • Contribute to Research Manager Management Team through regular meetings and special projects and initiatives
    • Collaborate with Research leaders and colleagues across the firm as necessary

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Excellent academic record
  • Minimum one year of work or internship experience
  • Experience with at least two of the following:
    • Conducting primary and secondary research
    • Demonstrated interest in higher education
    • Writing in-depth reports in a professional setting
    • Analyzing business issues

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a team environment, as well as independently and autonomously
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with senior executives, in both oral and written formats
  • Experience with solution focused problem solving and thinking through problems creatively
  • Proven ability to take initiative on projects
  • Ability to set and manage team toward goals
