Staff Physician

Job Description

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITY:

Under the direct supervision of the Lead Physician and Clinic Director, the Staff Physician is responsible for providing primary care and assessing the health status and disease processes of our patients.

At recommended intervals and according to acceptable medical standards, the Staff Physician will perform appropriate physical examinations on patients of all types. Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses based on subjective date, clinical findings, laboratory, and diagnostic reports. Prescribe and adjust patient medications according to therapeutic goals and St Anthony Health Center’s contract formulary.

Staff Physician provides triage or triage back up to diagnose and treat acutely ill walk-in patients. Counsel patients and families regarding health, disease and available treatment options, and obtain proper informed consent as needed.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • St. Anthony Medical Clinic practices care in a team-based setting. The Staff Physician is an active member of the healthcare and collaborative care team, contributing to and abiding by the team ground rules, working with other team members to ensure high quality care and attainment of team goals. 
  • Provides patient care in the clinic during normal drop-in and appointment hours Mondays through Fridays.
  • Monitors medical treatment given to assure quality care, timely and appropriate treatment, and follow-up care; keeps accurate and complete medical records.
  • Works in an integrated setting with the behavior health teams via consultation, shared patient visits, warm hand-offs, and other patient care integration activities.
  • Coordinates referrals to other health care facilities; Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, University of California San Francisco, and other Community Health clinics.
  • Consults with the Lead Physician on clinical aspects of patient care when needed and is available as needed for clinical consultation with nurses and nurse practitioners.
  • Serves as an active member of the Clinic interdisciplinary team; participating in all appropriate, required meetings on and off-site. Maintains St. Anthony Medical Clinic policies and procedures.
Skills & Requirements

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Medicine with a MD or DO degree.
  • Current California physician license.
  • Current DEA certification.
  • 2+ years related experience.
  • Proficient using computers and EMR software.
  • Dedicated to ensuring the highest quality of care to patients.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Language speaking abilities in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or another Asian languages highly desired.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Desire to work with culturally diverse populations and varied socio-economic levels.
  • Commitment to St. Anthony Foundation Statement of Values and to the preservation of appropriate health care to the uninsured and poor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Constant standing and walking, occasional bending, stooping, lifting, reaching forward and overhead.
  • May occasionally be required to lift patients, office equipment and paper, usually not exceeding fifty pounds of direct lift.
  • Frequent computer work required.
  • Must have transportation available during the workday for frequent local travel within and out of the community.
