PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITY:
Under the direct supervision of the Client Safety Services (CSS) Manager, help provide a safe environment for staff, clients, volunteers, and other occupants of St. Anthony Foundation (SAF) by means of crisis intervention and conflict de-escalation. Attend all trainings on CSS philosophies/procedures, harm reduction and trauma informed systems. Participates in the implementation of SAF’s safety and disaster preparedness programs.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Makes continuing rounds of assigned SAF administration and program areas.
- Monitors and anticipates potential safety and security problems, and attempts, by means of de-escalation techniques, to prevent or defuse them before they become critical on assigned posts.
- Responds to emergency calls from assigned administration and program areas.
- Calls for assistance in crisis situations.
- Assists regular CSS staff in ensuring the safety of staff, clients, volunteers, and other visitors.
- Ensures clients, visitors, and staff are welcomed, with dignity and respect.
- Checks and secures SAF premises as instructed.
- Follows department and organizational policies and procedures.
- Participates in emergency response and disaster preparedness trainings and drills.
- Attends and participates in relevant meetings and trainings.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Client Safety Services Management team.
- Adheres to the guidelines of the SAF Safety Program.
- Working as a part of the CSS team knowing your presence is an essential function for the team to be successful.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- One year security or safety experience. Experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques preferred.
- Experience working with low income, homeless, and mentally disabled persons.
- High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent experience preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, oral communication and conflict de-escalation skills.
- Excellent work habits: punctual, reliable, cooperative, and team-oriented.
- Ability to be polite, tactful, and firm.
- Ability to set limits and to handle emergency and pressure situations with clients.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work overtime and change scheduled hours as required.
- The ability to stand on your feet for 4 to 7 hours a day
- Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds.
- Experience working with and/or knowledge of issues effecting chemically dependent adults preferred.
