Job Description

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Lead Physician, and in collaboration with the Clinic Director, the Nursing Team Manager participates in the process of identifying and implementing goals and objectives for the continuous improvement of the clinic.  Coordinates and supervises nursing staff activities so that clinic patients are provided with the highest standard of nursing care.  Works with all nursing staff to develop and maintain their ability to work as a team by strengthening their interdependence, professionalism, support, communication and problem solving capabilities. The Nursing Team Supervisor must demonstrate in their performance, adherence to established policies and procedures exhibiting the defined characteristics associated with attendance and punctuality.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Serves as team leader in the Adult Clinic: screens patients, provides patients and providers with a variety of related services.
  • Coordinates nursing staff schedules and duty assignments to assure that adequate coverage is provided. Working as part of the clinic team knowing your presence is an essential function for the team to be successful.
  • Oversees the suitability, placement and scheduling of nursing volunteers and AmeriCorps members.
  • Takes leadership in the development of nursing protocols and procedures to ensure appropriate, safe and quality care.
  • Schedules and facilitates nursing team meetings.  Attends designated staff meetings.
  • Actively participates in the interdisciplinary QI team.
  • Develops mechanism for continually maintaining effectiveness of nursing care
  • Contributes innovations and improvements in patient care
  • Participates in improvement projects and patient safety initiatives
  • Collaborates with Compliance & Quality Manager
  • In conjunction with the Lead Physician, is alert for educational opportunities for nursing staff (classes, books, periodicals, etc.).
  • Maintains crash cart, EKG, IV, blood draw, orthopedic and I&D trays.
  • Cleans, stocks and maintains lab; monitors refrigerator and incubator; routinely checks expiration dates of stock supplies.
  • Cleans, stocks and maintains I & D and utility rooms; cleans, wraps, sterilizes and tracks instrument packs.
  • Maintains monthly vaccination inventory.
  • Ensure that all Vaccine protocols are adhere to and incompliance according to the California Department of Public Health Immunization Branch. Responsibilities include and are not limited to: Receiving vaccines, Storing vaccines, monitoring vaccine temperatures and ordering vaccines.
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual budget; receives and prioritizes requests from nursing staff for medical supplies and equipment.
  • In conjunction with the Lead Physician and according to prescribed clinic protocol, determines the disposition of donations of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains storage of medical supplies and equipment in an accessible manner and in compliance with laws governing the proper storage of such items.  
  • Orients and trains new nursing staff, students, volunteers, and AmeriCorps members as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Lead Physician and Clinic Director.
Skills & Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of high school, supplemented by graduation from an accredited school of nursing or an equivalent combination of training and experience.   BS in nursing or BA in related social service is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid certificate as a Registered Nurse issued by the State Board of Nursing Examiners and requisite Continuing Education Units.
  • A minimum of 5 years direct patient care experience plus a minimum of 1 year supervisory experience is desired.
  • Requires thorough working knowledge of modern methods, techniques and procedures used in professional nursing, including understanding of medical terminology and clinic routines, procedures, equipment and facilities.
  • Requires the ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Requires the ability to use good judgment in unusual and emergent situations.
  • Requires strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Possession of CPR certification.
  • Prefer bi-lingual in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin or other Asian dialect.
  • Excellent ability to speak clearly and to be understood in English.
