The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) at the Jefferson Barracks VA Medical Center in St. Louis, MO, is seeking an Accounting Technician II.

As an Accounting Technician II, you will be responsible for providing support in the Finance Center.

 

DUTIES:

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

Electronic Payroll Deduction (EPD) Program Administration: Serve as the primary support contact for the Electronic Payroll Deduction program by processing applications, maintaining account accuracy, reconciling transactions, and resolving program-related issues for internal and external stakeholders.

Financial Reconciliation & Account Management: Monitor and reconcile financial accounts, research and correct discrepancies, and ensure all transactions are accurate, compliant with policy, and aligned with financial reporting requirements.

Debt & Gift Card Operations Oversight: Manage delinquent debt collection activities and oversee gift card operations, including tracking transactions, resolving issues, analyzing activity trends, and preparing reports to support operational and financial decision-making.

Invoice Processing & Accounts Payable Administration: Review and verify invoices for accuracy and policy compliance, route approved invoices for payment processing, and manually match invoices to receiving records when automated matching is unavailable.

Discrepancy Resolution & Vendor Coordination: Research and resolve invoice and payment discrepancies, correct processing errors, and maintain communication with suppliers to ensure accurate accounting and timely payments.

Cash Reconciliation & Discrepancy Management: Reconcile cash and account records by reviewing financial documents, identifying discrepancies, researching variances, and coordinating with canteens to resolve issues and ensure accurate financial reporting.

Skills & Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Accounting & Financial Operations Knowledge: Working knowledge of accounting principles, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and account reconciliation processes.

 Accounting Systems & Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Experience: Experience using automated accounting or ERP systems to process transactions, corrections, data loads, and retail or sales-related financial activity.

 Microsoft Office & Financial Technology Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams, with the ability to use SharePoint and other financial system applications to support daily operations.

Vendor & Invoice Management: Ability to work with vendors to obtain invoices, process credits, verify pricing, and ensure timely payments to maintain uninterrupted operations.

 Compliance, Internal Controls & Organizational Knowledge: Understanding of internal controls, financial policies, and procedures to safeguard assets while ensuring accurate and compliant financial processing.


Minimum Specialized Qualifying Requirements:
 

  • One (1) year of experience comparable to the duties of an Accounting Technician or the educational equivalent coursework in accounting/bookkeeping practices. 
  • A current, valid REAL ID is required to work at Veterans Canteen Service.
