REPORTS TO: Elementary School Assistant Principal 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OVERVIEW  

The substitute Educational Assistant (EA) is primarily responsible for assisting the Homeroom Teacher with the teaching and learning that is happening in the classroom. Additionally, the sub Educational Assistant must constantly ensure the safety and well-being of all students under their supervision at all times. It is expected that the Educational Assistant will work collaboratively with the grade level or department teacher(s) to maintain an environment where student and teacher needs are met equitably.  It should be further understood that although the list of responsibilities is multiple and varied, unexpected emergencies or circumstances may arise that require the Educational Assistant to perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Assistant Principal. 

 

ASSIGNED DUTIES 

  • This is a substitute position and working location will be both ES campus and SP campus based on needs

  • Primarily assist with providing differentiated learning experiences for students as directed by the teacher. 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of classroom content and pedagogy in order to assist with the teaching and student learning in the classroom.  

  • Understand and support the classroom procedures, routines and philosophy of management.  

  • Demonstrate understanding and sensitivity to the academic, physical, social and emotional needs of the age group.  

  • Assist with the preparation of learning materials (i.e. photocopying, laminating, labeling, bulletin board set-up, supply ordering, etc.). 

  • Actively show initiative and/or seek direction and help with regards to assisting with the teaching and learning in the classroom.  

  • Interact respectfully with all AISG community members and communicate with colleagues in a constructive, honest, and positive manner.  

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all student records and teacher conversations. 

  • Enforce and ensure compliance with school regulations pertaining to security, safety and proper usage of school property. 

  • Ensure compliance with all school policies and procedures as related to the job responsibilities of this position. 

  • Service as the primary teacher in the classroom during brief periods of absence by the Homeroom Teacher.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS 

A successful application will have successfully completed: 

  • A Bachelor degree, preferable if degree is in language acquisition and/or education 

  • Preferable if teaching qualification obtained 

  • 3 years working experience preferable in a school setting, supporting teaching and learning 

 

The applicant will demonstrate: 

  • Excellent spoken and written English language skills 

  • Practical knowledge and initiative surrounding use of the MacBook Pro and relevant software programs including (but not limited to): WordPress, Office365 ES Media and Seesaw. 

  • A professional demeanor and positive attitude.

FACILITIES

(Ersha: Early Years, Lower Elementary): 

The Ersha Island campus is located in the heart of bustling Guangzhou City and is home to Early Years (Pre-K and K) and Lower Elementary students (Grades 1-3). All classrooms are well-equipped with cutting-edge TVs with touch screens, flexible furniture, class libraries, 1:1 iPads (starting in Grade 1), and are well-lit with natural sunlight. Additional facilities include an air-conditioned multi-purpose room, a nurse's office, a maker-space area, and a central library. For sports, play time, and activities there is a newly renovated playground with innovative play structures that inspire creativity and active play. For all students, there is an air-conditioned gymnasium that houses a full-size basketball court.

 

(Science Park: Upper Elementary and Secondary):

The Science Park campus is located in the heart of Guangzhou’s technology center, Science City, in Huangpu District, where Upper Elementary students (Grades 4 and 5) and Secondary students (Grades 6-12) attend. The Science Park campus finished its complete renovation in August 2023 and has state-of-the art, well-equipped facilities with an open-concept design. The campus also features a Performing Arts Center with a theater, black box, music classrooms, and practice rooms; an Athletic Center with a natural grass field, an indoor 25-meter swimming pool, two gymnasiums with three full-sized courts, a fitness room, a dance studio, two external climbing walls, an indoor running track, and two rooftop spaces; and additional amenities that include design classrooms, a cafeteria and cafe area, a nurse's office, a creative multimedia space, and a central library.

 

TECHNOLOGY

All classrooms are equipped with the appropriate technology for interactive instruction. Starting in Grade 1, students are in a 1:1 device program, iPads for Grades 1-5 and laptops for Grades 6-12. Teachers incorporate the ISTE Standards into their curriculum with the support of the innovation technology coaches. Technology is integrated where appropriate, and the development of research and information literacy skills is expected. Each teacher is assigned a MacBook laptop.
