JOB PURPOSE (JOB SUMMARY):

Under regular supervision, performs required tests, and quality control inspections of raw materials, in process batches and finished goods.  Accurately records, communicates and files results.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

·         Complete microbiological and analytical testing on all products as needed on a daily basis to include operation of the following:

o     FT120 Milk Analyzer

o    Cryoscope

o    Charm Novalum

o    Mocon CO2 Analyzer

o    Charm Rosa

o    Alkaline Phosphatase pasteurization testing

·         Sampling relating to Air Quality and Compressed Air Quality

·         Perform all testing pertaining to End of Code product.

·         Hold and release product as needed per Suspect Product Hold Program

·         Prep and Package and send Whey samples weekly

·         Prepare and send COAs for applicable products

·         Perform DFA raw milk micro and analytical tests and enter data in Dairy.com

·         Pull product samples from various sources in the facility from daily analysis

·         Sample and perform micro on plant coolants and incoming city water

·         Perform sensory analysis on all products; compile and report results

·         Perform end of the shift equipment shut-down and lab clean-up

·         Coordinate environmental swabbing program and evaluate results

·         Calibrate thermometers throughout the plant

·         Perform interim pest control walk through and coordinate with Ecolab representative

·         Prepare and submit reports to CDPH&E regarding Appendix N Program

·         Must achieve and maintain CDPH&E sampler tester licensure ns Appendix N licensure

·         Reviews sanitation related recording charts and a selection of plant processing documentation.  Performs quality control inspections on production samples.  Performs chemical and microbiological analysis on raw materials and final products to verify adherence to stated specifications.  Uses keen observation skills and good judgment to catch and prevent production errors.  Approves release of products and materials.

·         Maintains various production, raw material, testing or problem logs.  Stores production and raw material samples.

·         In consultation with supervisor, takes proper steps to troubleshoot testing problems.

·         Maintains lab equipment and keeps work area clean.

·         Performs all operations according to all established Safety Policies, Good Lab Practices, Good Manufacturing Practices and Standard Operating Procedures.

·         Shall be responsible for reporting and taking any necessary action to prevent food safety and food quality problems from occurring.

·         Communicates effectively, efficiently and in a timely manner with supervision and all internal departments.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum Education Required:  College Degree or equivalent experience.
  • One to three years’ work experience in a laboratory environment desired.
  • Food Industry/Dairy Industry experience desired.
  • Must have experience with general office equipment, Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.
  • Desired experience with SAP and 10 key.
  • This position requires regular and prompt attendance during the working hours scheduled by the Department Manager.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

·         Frequently stands, walks and sits.

·         Frequently type/keyboard, grip and repetitive hand use.

·         Occasionally bends at the waist, twists and turns, kneels and squats.

·         Constantly would need the ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.

·         Frequently would need the ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.

·         Occasionally would need the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

·         Frequently need to push/pull up to 30 pounds.

·         Occasionally would need the ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds.

·         Work hours may vary depending on projects or assignments.

·         Frequently exposed to loud noises when on the production floor.
