The expected pay range for this position is $100,000-$120,000 annually depending on skills and experience.  

JOB SUMMARY:

The Operations Manager is a key management position with significant involvement and essential responsibility for overall operational results. This role is a member of the Plant Management Team, reporting directly to the Plant Manager. This is a #2 position within the Colorado Springs organization. The Operations Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and controlling activities of materials coordination and production to accomplish customer and scheduling objectives. Directs all functions of materials and operations, including raw receiving, processing, production, warehousing, and shipping. The responsibility also includes creating and maintaining a safe and quality minded work environment and fostering the development of a well-trained and motivated work force. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Continuously drive the facility's culture toward a higher level of safety. Challenge status quo safety behaviors, engage in Safety initiatives and ensure safety related training is attended by all employees
  • Drive KPIs and direct the workforce to achieve optimum performance in the areas of safety, cost, quality, service, and people
  • Initiate and drive continuous improvement activities in all areas of the facility to ensure plant sustainability
  • Manages strategic initiatives and the day to day production of finished goods to ensure smooth, efficient plant operations
  • Annual strategic budget planning and daily management of cost control
  • Responsible for complying with:  GFSI (SQF), HACCP programs, and validating the effectiveness of procedures that ensure food safety/quality standards for all Regulatory, customer, and business needs
  • Coordinate production activities with procurement, sales, distribution, maintenance and quality control to ensure customer orders are delivered on time
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and efficient operation of shipping warehouse.  Coordinate with transportation, sales, and others as needed to meet needs of customer orders
  • Oversee the management of material forecasting process and ensure timely communication of information, along with reporting on consumption
  • Provide guidance and leadership for professional growth to production supervisors, foremen, and line-associates. Maintain an approachable, hands-on, supportive role
  • Assumes Plant Manager responsibilities as needed
  • Partner and communicate with all stakeholders regarding the resolution of ongoing problems, the implementation of new procedures or process, the launch of new products or product lines, and the development of new plan and designs
  • All other duties as assigned

 

EDUCATION/ SKILLS / OTHER ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

 

·       Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience

·       Strong Safety Mindset

  • 5-7 years of experience managing people and/or related processes in a manufacturing environment, dairy industry is a plus
  • Prefer food/beverage manufacturing plant experience
  • Ability to adapt to fast paced changing operational and organization needs.

·       ESL/UHT and or dairy experience strong plus

  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma, LEAN and/or Continuous Improvement principles, especially as they apply to a manufacturing environment
  • Analytical skills to drive cost and waste improvement projects
  • Union experience a plus
  • Ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of regulatory laws and responsibilities as related to food safety, food production
  • Demonstrates understanding of managing budgets and controlling costs
  • Strong team player with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines
  • Must be able to mentor, coach, train, supervise and develop staff, formulate policy, and direct and delegate activities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, SAP experience strongly preferred 
  • Inventory control experience and warehouse operations in an ERP environment highly preferred, such as SAP

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal office environment
  • Standing and walking in food manufacturing environment with some exposure to noise, and both high and low temperatures
  • The ability to lift, carry, push/pull, or otherwise move objects of up to 50 pounds may be necessary on occasion
  • Hours may vary depending on the project, assignment, or production demands. Must have the ability to work extended hours (including weekends) as this position requires 24-hour responsibility for the operations of the plant
