What They Do: Our client in the cannabis industry currently operates in a quarter of the country with double-digit retail locations and a triple-digit growth rate making them one of the fastest-growing companies in North America. As they avidly tackle nationwide development with cultivation facilities, dispensaries, and their headquarters in Chicago – the demand to fill their teams is at an all-time high.

THE ROLE

Our client is seeking a Procurement Buyer to join their Procurement team and support purchasing activities across assigned cannabis production facilities. This role will own procurement for cultivation-related indirect materials, grow supplies, and MRO while providing additional support across categories such as Professional Services, IT, Marketing, Facilities, and HR. The ideal candidate is a proactive procurement professional with experience in indirect spend, strong vendor management and analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate closely with cultivation, facilities, warehouse, finance, and corporate teams in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Manage purchase orders from creation through delivery, ensuring accuracy, timely fulfillment, and resolution of invoicing or shipment discrepancies.

  • Source cultivation supplies, indirect materials, and MRO products while engaging established and site-specific vendors to evaluate pricing, availability, and lead times.

  • Partner with cultivation, facilities, warehouse, and inventory teams to forecast demand and maintain appropriate inventory levels across assigned facilities.

  • Develop purchasing strategies that minimize shortages, excess inventory, and total cost of ownership while supporting uninterrupted production operations.

  • Manage supplier relationships and monitor vendor performance across cost, quality, service, and delivery metrics.

  • Lead negotiations for bulk and one-time purchases, using purchasing data and supplier insights to secure favorable pricing and terms.

  • Ensure procurement activities meet internal quality standards, regulatory requirements, and budgetary guidelines in partnership with Compliance, QA, and Finance.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for assigned procurement categories, supporting ERP/MRP configuration, training, process adoption, and policy compliance in collaboration with Corporate Procurement.

  • Identify and implement process improvements across procurement, logistics, inventory management, and supplier operations to improve efficiency and scalability.

  • Educate internal stakeholders on procurement processes, best practices, and compliance requirements while serving as a key partner to site and corporate teams.

WHAT YOU WILL LIKELY NEED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Agriculture, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

  • 3+ years of procurement experience within agriculture, cannabis, CPG, manufacturing, or a related industry, with experience managing indirect spend.

  • Experience sourcing MRO, cultivation, production, or other operational supplies.

  • Strong understanding of purchasing, inventory management, supplier relationships, and procurement processes.

  • Experience working with ERP/MRP systems and inventory management platforms.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to use data to inform purchasing decisions.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across site and corporate teams.

  • Proactive and adaptable approach with the ability to operate independently and navigate an evolving, fast-paced environment.

  • CSCP, CPSM, or similar procurement certification is a plus.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must pass any required background checks.

  • Must comply with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be at least 21 years of age.

  • Must be approved by state badging agency to work in the cannabis industry.

  • Hybrid Role: 

Chicago-based employees in-office once a week.

Massachusetts-based employees in-office once per month.
